the architectural beacon hasn't been lit up yet. Only aircraft warning lights have been on.

Anyone know what Goldmans Sach is powered by? That building is extremely bright.
Yeah, what's up with the Goldman Sachs building? Why is it lit so brightly? No one seems to have an answer for this

Well that shows my lack of knowledge about buildings haha. My bad, I confused a beacon with aircraft warning lights. Still not sure I'll be able to see the beacon that far though.

There is absolutely no way the thing was faint from only 10 miles. I saw it from 25 the other night, and it was damn bright! I'll post a pic, it was also very clear

From the south street seaport area it was a bit hazy and it was almost impossible to make out. Glad to hear that isn't the beacon though lol. The light up now is very weak. Like you said it must be totally clear to see it. Let's hope the beacon is blinding enough to see out to the NYC suburbs 40-50 miles out.

By the way guys, the Fire Island Lighthouse is starting to allow people to the top within a few days! The beaches are finally opening. My best camera is only 10x zoom and 10 MP, but I'll try to get great shots of it from a distance! It's one thing to see 1WTC up close. But to see it clearly almost 40 miles out will be incredible with the spire complete! I'm so curious to see what it looks like I can barely wait. It's like opening up a gift!

Oh, I know! It just looked so big and powerful, even more so than the Twins ever did. It's definitely how the corner catches the light of the setting sun. It's also the first time I've seen it with the corner cladding almost finished. Looks great!

That's what I keep hearing, but I still never saw the old WTC or 1WTC with my naked eyes from right near my house ontop of the lighthouse or Robert Moses Bridge! Everytime I drive over it, I look and look waiting for something to appear, but all I can makeout are treelines or just nothing. It's maddening! All I'm living off now are people who tell me how they see it from exit 49 Melville on the LIE, from the RM bridge, from the FI Lighthouse, from Northern State in Huntington, etc. The only place I think I will ever see it even on a clear day is the FI lighthouse but even then the conditions have to be right I would think.

I really like this building and hopefully I'll visit it again this summer, however I always saw it this way. The way skyscrapers are measured is as if I said "I'm taller than you because of my mohawk, and my mohawk will be a permanent part of me"

@IndiansUnite - I love the silver color of the world trade center on certain days. It looks like some of the original renders

Thanks for the shots, Ken. Now we can tell how the old NW facade has been doing. Once that gap is filled and the final row of stainless steel is placed above the glass, cladding will be completed on the tower (with the exception of underneath the East exterior elevator).

GS is a brand new building with floor to ceiling windows and LED lights instead of fluorescents.

Do we know what's going in behind the slats once all that plywood is removed?

July 4th - Beacon & Mast lights

Guys, I just found out that the plan is to turn on the Beacon AND the mast/spire facade lighting at the same time on July 4th, using temporary power as all of the electrical rooms in the building are not complete yet.

No word yet on specifics, but it sounds like they are planning on some type of ceremony when they light it up for the first time. Special guests, famous singer, countdown, etc.
