I think he just doesn't know that long exposures cause water to look like a sheet because the ripples are blurred and the angle that gets the most exposure is when the water is between a crest and trough. That's actually harder to explain than I thought. And I too believe it was photoshopped. Image>Adjustments>Desaturate. Usually photographers record in color and desaturate in post processing.

You should definitely contact the WSJ and ask at least for proper credit, those guys may earn money at your expense.
Yeah, but in your case it worked out and you persuaded me to model the building, besides, I still haven't remodeled the catwalks because I can't get myself to do something that tedious a third time for something people won't notice. Every step, guardrail, and post has to line up. Also I have to pay for a subscription just to complain. I'll solve it in my own style by creating a better one, distributing it for free, and adding a disclaimer on the bottom. "Created as an accurate replacement for the inaccurate and stolen WSJ diagram," in fine print. I'll get around to that after I create the short renderings for my youtube channel ad. My YouTube add will include "featured in the Wall Street Journal," with a link in the description.

Oh yeah, forgot it was the catwalk one.

Anyways, the guy you are looking at is Alberto Cervantes, a mexican graphic designer. His webpage is www.albertocervantes.com

This is not long exposure though. The reflections would be very blurry. The top portion of the image is cloned and mirrored vertically in ps. A pretty pointless trick people seem to like to do, as if the real photo of NYC wasn't nice enough as it is...

And for your information, I do know what long exposure is....

I post night shots all the time here. That's almost a snobby thing to say, if you have done long exposure before, then you would know that it would be blurred water because of it's movement but it's too mirrorlike to be an exposure. Look how sharp the buildings are in the water sheesh..

Water is always like that when there's no wind. Btw, turn your head upside down. The picture looks almost exactly the same

The Hudson River is always rippling

Now this is a long exposure with the Hudson River. Buildings' reflections are completely blurred

David Childs' design pays homage to the lost North Tower, particularly its sawed-off top and spire (better without the condom or whatever you call it). Give him credit for adding the communication ring, a crown or halo of sorts. And there is still an element to go -- the guy wires, which (I suspect) are a subtle reference in outline to the pyramid top of the Washington Monument, a structure that D.C. native Childs admits influenced his futuristic obelisk. The guy wires will also help visually break up the great height of the spire, stretched to reach Daniel Libeskind's cloying and utterly pointless 1,776 feet.

Ok, my head has cleared from last night/this morning. I'll admit, I wasn't thinking about what I was typing. I also was thinking about that WSJ thing. Anyway, I apologize.
