That's just orange safety netting, so of course they will.

I am actually a little sad. I have been following this tower since 2006 and now sad its just about complete and done. I thought I would be insanly happy and all, which I am. But I am also sad because checking up on 1WTC has become a daily thing since 2006, and it will feel empty without checking up on it every day now....

Same here. Goes to show that this tower was under construction for way too long

Yeah I agree. That's why we need tenants for tower's 2-3. Following the progress on the Transportation hub will do for now, I guess.

And for those who want progress on the base cladding....

The open fins look great.

I was a bit worried that the design would become too stale after squaring off the base corners, but the variations in the open fin design look nicely done.

Our baby is leaving the nest. We still have a base, a lobby, temporary elevator removal, roof crane installation, tenant fit-out/lighting, beacon/spire lighting tests, and more. When they permanently turn on the entire base lighting, that will be the big finally for the exterior minus temp loading dock.

It's a steel skeleton reinforced with 14,000 p.s.i. concrete.

I have to say the spire is a terrible disappointment. Even trying to put the intended structure with the radome cladding out of my mind, I struggle to see it as a finished part of this building. Up close, its industrial look jars with the sleekness of the tower. In most middle-distance views it looks too thin and black. From afar, it looks like a cheap, old-fashioned TV aerial. I presume it's not going to be painted white and can't understand why not. It would make a big difference. It seems incredible to me that one man's determination to save a few dollars is dictating this. Can the city authorities not intervene and at least force a compromise with Durst while the work is ongoing? It hardly needs to be restated that this is no ordinary office building. Apart from the historical significance, it's the visual anchor for the skyline of maybe the most-photographed city in the world.

You must be really over-sensitive to find it such a terrible disappointment. In fact I love it so much, esp after the cladding on its head and the topping out.
Anyone knows how small the square is at the rooftop, I mean its sides's length? It so much tapers from certain angles.

It's a bit too early to comment on how the spire fits with the rest of the building when the circular bit between it and the top floor hasn't been finished yet.

Just because you like it doesn't make the many people who don't "over-sensitive"! Considering it's taken more than a decade to build this, considering what was lost and the otherwise excellent quality of the building, yes, I am disappointed.

The spire alone didn't take a decade to get built nor did the structure itself. So, I don't think you can say it took that time frame at all. You can't count pauses and halts in work in the actual construction days.
Moreover, the spire came out really good than in the renders and than what most of us had thought.
