I wish they would hurry with repainting OLP, that thing ruins all skyline pictures.

Plus it partially blocks the east view of 4 WTC.

Yeah, I was just doing Street View, and it looks the same as it did last November.

At this point, I wouldn't necessarily count on the 4th as being the date they will turn on the spire lights and beacon.

Also, I haven't seen it mentioned on here yet, but a last-minute change has been made to permanently install eight maintenance platforms (measuring 3'x3'8" each) to be mounted/installed slightly below each of the upper four guy-wire attach points between level 14&15 (or section 8, if you will). These were supposed to be temporary platforms used during the initial attachment of the guy-wires, but now they will be permanent and used for future maintenance. They are grated platforms, like the rest of the platforms.

Awww. I was excited for the mast and beacon to be finally turned on. Oh well.

Thanks for the update, Cap'n.

No problem, guys. Not the news we all want to hear, I know. It's still possible, I suppose, but the 4th is only 2.5 weeks away and it doesn't sound good.

On a different note, this story was in today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution... http://www.ajc.com/news/business/del...acebook/nYLg2/

By the way, I am NOT @capnjerry That's a totally different Capn!

yeah, my bet is still september 11th, it is predictable that to lit up the spire, they do a big ceremony, and that they choose a significant date, that is either 4th of july or september 11th.
But beyond if the light of the beacon are ready or not, it is unlikely they turn on the beacon with the crane still up there, nothing gives a building an image of unfinished as a construction crane attached to it.
I think that before they turn the beacon on, they should give the building an image of finished, at least from the outside, tat is at least take the crane off, but I think also the exterior elevator. Until september eleventh, they have almost 3 months to do that.

September 11 seems like a perfect time to light up the mast and beacon. And with rumors of the crane being taken down in August it'll make the mast stand out more on its own.

Since, this is AKA Freedom TOWER, and the figure 1776 sticks synonymously with it, I think the 4th of July could be okay!!
Sep 11 not a bad choice though!

Almost there. There's been a 12-year hiatus, but Downtown is back!

I believe "The Glow Effect" is the most beautiful attribute of The One World Trade Center like:
A Pearl upon the ocean
A Dimple on a girl
A Diamond in the necklace
An i-phone in the pocket
