I think you can ask the people around about when the beacon is supposed to get lit??
Please try for that.

The beacon was lit two days ago, but was not rotating. Probably testing so it should be ready soon!

They're for maintenance work.

The "temporary" platforms that have been changed to be permanent platforms do not include any of the temporary platforms that we have been seeing for the past months. The platforms with the blue netting and the yellow upright sections of handrail are truly temporary and will be coming down in the next few months.

The temporary platforms that are now going to be permanent have not yet been installed as far as I can tell from any photos. These will be installed at the bottom of section 8 (the large section that I've always called level 14-15) just below the upper four guy-wire attachment points. They were going to be used only for the initial guy-wire attachment, but have since been determined to be needed for any future maintenance to the guy-wires.

In the past, there was a good pic on this forum that showed which platforms were STAYING vs. GOING. As far as I am aware that is still an accurate representation concerning the temporary vs. permanent platforms on the spire.

Hope that makes sense

Here's the diagram again.

The latest that I'm being told on this is subject is that they plan to light up the beacon ONLY on July 4th. About a month ago, the plan was to have the beacon and the spire lit up as part of a special ceremony on July 4th. Then, when it became clear that the spire/mast lighting installation wasn't going to be ready by the 4th, I was told that they were moving the date of the lighting ceremony to 9/11. Now, I'm hearing the 4th again for just the beacon alone.

They were indeed testing it last week as a few of you have noticed. There was apparently some issues with the beacon communications cabling/commissioning that they were resolving last week between the main controls and the beacon itself. I have no idea if they still plan to do a special ceremony with a guest singer, major press coverage, any other fanfare, etc. on the 4th.

On a different note, I'm happy to see so many people finally claiming to be fans of the final mast look. For the longest time after I joined, it seemed like I was only one of a half-dozen people on here that actually preferred the non-radome version. Not sure where the count stands, but you can definitely count me in as a fan. If not for the removal of the radome covering, I would have never been involved in this project, so I am all for the final look. Of course that implies a bias on my part on the subject, but I don't have any qualms with admitting my bias.

Cannot wait to see this spire/mast lit up in all of it's glory. It should be special!

The new maintenance platforms that I mentioned in my post above will be where the lowest green arrow is pointing. (The bottom part of the semi-circle)

This tower is amazing, the only thing that isn't is its name "One World" Trade Center. As if a One World government/ police state was in power. Freedom Tower would have been much better.

Not to mention there has always been a 1 WTC. What do think the North Tower called?

And thanks for the clarification on the platforms and mast lighting, Cap'N.

1WTC IS AMAZING. I got most requests in. Such as dying tree, underneath memorial and base and the 4 at 4WTC. And transit and really close up of 3WTC cladding. I also got extreme close up of base 'fins' and cladding. Also beacon close up! And the missing window! Pics in about 2 hours.
