I thought Durst was going to have it play off the light shows on his other buildings (Bank of America Tower and Conde Nast Building)

I haven't found anything that says it's just for special occasions and that it will be primarily white.

This is the color they should go for, it fits the building beautiful. I doubt that during the rest of the year it will be white. That would be too boring and I doubt even Durst is that kind of boring. Besides, it's not like he could save anything if it would be just white

I would expect 1 WTC mast to stay white just like the ESB does on normal nights.

We don't need to be spoiled with dazzling colors every night.
Save it for special occasions, like the ESB.

Awesome pictures! I seriously cannot wait until the spire is lit permantly!
Actually, it was on July 2 that the colonies declared independence. July 4 was the day that the Declaration of Independence was approved by Congress.

Speaking of spires.. Empire State Building is doing something special with its spire for July 4th!

Empire State Building adds additional flair to Macy's fireworks show
http://www.amny.com/urbanite-1.81203...show-1.5613414

Quote:

Macy’s has been lighting up the New York skies above either the Hudson or East River on July 4 for decades, but for the 37th annual celebration organizers decided to take advantage of the Empire State Building’s newest feature.

This year’s program, which will feature 40,000 blasts above the Hudson between West 24th and 40th streets beginning at 9 p.m., will also include a patriotic light show on the Empire State Building’s spire.

Anthony E. Malkin, the president of Malkin Holdings, the company that manages the building, said New Yorkers and visitors will see the skyscraper in a whole new way.

“Picture someone playing the great organ at Radio City, but instead of the organ, we’re playing with the lights,” he said.

Last year, the building’s lighting system was updated so it can produce 16 million colors and new effects such as ripples, cross-fades, sparkles, chasers, strobes and bursts.

Malkin said the building had a huge success when it introduced the new light system at an Alicia Keys concert in November, and he wanted to go bigger.

He teased that the lights will be spectacular during the final minutes of the half-hour fireworks show.

“There is a point in time during the general show where we are just playing along and when we get toward the end of the show, we will be specifically, note by note, choreographed with the music,” he said.

The addition of the Empire State Building’s light display isn’t the only change at this year’s fireworks display.

R&B star Usher was chosen to curate the show, marking the first time a major recording artist has helped produce the program.

The 34-year-old singer promised to keep the show New York-centered and said the Empire State Building lights will give it an extra Big Apple touch.
“It’s going to be an epic moment when Frank Sinatra’s classic ‘New York, New York’ and the Jay-Z and Alicia Keys anthem ‘Empire State of Mind’ close out the show,” Usher said in a statement.

The show also airs on NBC beginning at 8 p.m.
--- Happy July 4th Everyone!!

bah, it's Independence Day. I would've chosen a timeless patriotic march or hymn to close the show.

just got word that the mast/beacon lighting planned for tomorrow night has now been scrubbed by the Port Authority.

Not sure why...no explanation was given. My two best guesses would be due to any bad weather that might be coming that way, or possibly because such a big ceremony is already planned for the ESB and they don't want to compete for attention with that.

Either way, pretty disappointing.

Sure, light it all week before July the 4th to get people excited and then keep it off when it counts. Really poor decision making.

Agreed. 1WTC isn't a used car dealership. It doesn't need blinking lights or one of those giant windsock people with the arms that wave around. Just keep the spire white, except for special occasions of course.

FFS PA! Is there really a need for some pompous ceremony? Just light the damn thing and pay respect to the nation's founders.
Unless there is news of technical problems then i'm going to remain very annoyed, it's supposed to be nice out tomorrow.

Yeah, the weather has been acting up this week; From raining and being foggy to sunny and clear.

Port Authority are probably worried the sky won't be clear tomorrow for lighting the mast and beacon. Time will tell. Hopefully all is good and they change their minds.

2 days ago, It was dumping rain almost like a hurricane when I was at Rockefeller for the TODAY show, quite a surprise as I was outside.
