Not sure why...no explanation was given. My two best guesses would be due to any bad weather that might be coming that way, or possibly because such a big ceremony is already planned for the ESB and they don't want to compete for attention with that.

Either way, pretty disappointing.
My source told me the Port needs approval from headquarters AND statehouses, submission of these papers weren't produced on time. At this moment is still uncertain whether they'll light the mast or not.

It was a simple test that lasted a few minutes.

Still, I wish they'd light it up for such an occasion. Ah, well, it'll still be nice.

Pardon my ignorance, but why do they have to go through such a hassle just to turn on the mast and beacon?

BTW, the new re-postion of the skyline cam is amazing!

And look what I just found!

They wouldn't dare not light the mast tomorrow.

Hey guys it's my first post and sorry for being so misinformed but what happened to Larry Silverstein. Everyone is talking about Durst as being the owner.

Durst is responsible for the mast. Larry still is the big guy on the block when it comes to the complex though.

And welcome!

Anyhow, I just checked Earthcam and I see a new option, "Skyline Panorama", has been added, and it's incredible. Offers a huge pano from Water Street to the Upper West Side. You guys should check it out!

I'm sure they'll have it up if they've gotten it fixed. It was broken back in May right before the T/O ceremony.

Didn't you know? Its purpose is to pay homage to Independence Day, and since France gave us Lady Liberty for this anniversary, we give back to them 137 years later.
