If they do light the spire and beacon tonight it has to be manually, it's not like it's on a timer yet. I doubt they would do it before the sun sets. And of course there's the possibility that they might not even do it tonight, though that would be disappointing.

I would assume that the optimal time to do it would be during a firework finally. I hope that's right.

Welp folks, they didn't light the mast or turn on the beacon.

Disappointing but, in all honesty, they shold wait until the crane is down and everything above the parapet is complete.

Extremely disappointing, they never do anything right. I bet they will wait until 9-11 to light it which would be completely unnecessary. Today was the most fitting day for it clearly.

Actually, doing it "right" would be to light it on 9-11 once the top of the building is actually completed. Just saying. They could have lit the beacon weeks ago but if you're going to make an event out of it, honor the victims and highlight the completed "top"

Just my 2cents.

Those are nice and all, but they can't compare to the bottle rockets I just launched at all my neighbor's houses.

Right but this building is supposed to symbolize freedom, hence the nickname freedom tower...and today is a day all about freedom, so to me today would have been the best time to light it, and it won't be complete on 9/11 either only difference will be the crane gone and the guy wires. Not much of a difference.
To each their own though, my thoughts are the Port screwed up and it should have been tonight.

What a big disapointment. PA are idiots.

Guess we'll have to wait until Sep 11.

Recap of the mast/beacon lighting.

the least they could have done was test it for a few minutes. There's still time for that, but i'm not going to spend all hours watching the skyline waiting for it. I'm sure the PA wanted the tower to be the center of attention for a lighting ceremony or something. That couldn't happen with the fireworks show and the light show on the ESB just up river.
meh. disappointment. rant over.

Huge opportunity missed tonight. I guess I can wait until 9/11, if that's what they end up doing, but watching the Macy's fireworks show tonight, I couldn't help but feel like it would have been the perfect time to light it up for the first time.

I agree with the idea of doing it when the guy wires are up, all temp platforms are gone, and the crane is removed.

The best things come to those who wait, I suppose.

The PA construction team did a great job delivering the mast lighting on time for the 4th, it was the late submission of permission papers what caused the mast not to be lit, don't know if anyways they did got answer, but if they did, surely was a denial. Bureaucracy is the main problem here.

Hard to believe that the late deilvery of papers caused an delay in lighting of a 500ft mast, which could all have been turned on by the drop of a single finger.

Oh well. What more can you expect from the PA?
