Wow! I have to say, as dubious as I was at first about the base cladding, I have to tip my hat because the cladding with open fins looks absolutely stunning and incredible! All the angles and broken reflections really looks beautiful! This truly is the model of a new style of future architecture

Sorry Misquoted wrong user above.. eyeofodin, You are extremely correct on this. Sorry RockMont.. Looking at the photo above of the base, was wondering why only a few of the windows were open,, anybody know if they can all open at once, I can't see people manually opening and closing every single one, or do they?

Great to see it in person

On Sunday June 30th I took a bus from Philly to NYC in order to see the big Gay Pride Parade.

As we approached Jersey City the One World Trade Center came into full view. My first reaction was "Awww it doesn't look as tall as the old twin towers." Then as we got a little closer I thought it actually looks taller than the old twins. After that I couldn't make up my mind.

The reality is, it is about the same height, even a wee bit taller than the twins.

However, for Gay Pride, it was upstaged by the Empire State Building that was illuminated in rainbow colors ... the ESB looked gorgeous!

Still from Seventh Avenue and Christopher Street looking south, it was great to see a tall skyscraper there once more!

Much as I disliked the compromises and changes to the design, I have to say the (nearly) finished building is starting to work its magic for me. It's not perfect, but in a way that makes it more New York. I think at some point when looking at a very long project, you have to stand back and say "it's finished", what do I think?
I think most people will love this building, and the spire changes etc will just become part of the story. I haven't been to NY for a few years but hope to return soon and can't wait to see it!
