If America ever reaches enlightenment and starts using the metric system, they should celebrate with a 1776m high building!

Hi everybody
i'm an Italian engineer and I'm trying to understand something about the structure of One WTC. Do you have a detail of external steel frame column-beam connection ? I really hope someone could help me !
I'm doing an "hypothetical" carpentry of the 45th floor, when I'll finish it I post it here for you.

Switching to pure metric would be nice but it's never going to happen. We've used the imperial measurement system for too long to really tear ourselves away, I think. Still, I'd love to see a 1776m high tower on US soil!

It's kind of sad that the current tallest building in the world has over double the roof height of 1 WTC, and even with the terrible height-cheating spire addition (which the CTBUH will probably approve anyway), 1 WTC is still 1000ft less tall. I remember talk way back when about how the 1776ft 1 WTC would be the world's tallest when completed. What a joke that turned out to be! Maybe one day the US will get to build something over 2000ft at least, but even that's a dream for now. The Chicago Spire was the closest we'll probably get for a long, long time.

It is. It looks likes 2 sides of the base are complete and the beginning of the other.

Forgive me,I suck at directions.

It'll happen eventually. Many important professions and fields in the US already use metric as a matter of course anyway. I'm probably biased since I'm in a science field, though.

Can people remember the space mission that failed because some designers were using imperial measurements and some were using metric?

i can't understand people....this building has just an altitude of 417 m and not 541m (= just antenna)...it's to low if you see other buildings worldwide...no Superlative more for USA? Unfortunately.

they should name it wtc 3 and build the kingdom Tower right beside this buildung...the new kingdom Tower, 1 mile high...NYC needs insane Superlativ.

This building have the height it just need to be. Keep in mind that this is what is replacing the Twin Towers, so having the same height it's just the correct way for this site, a remembrance of exactly how high the original towers were.

There are two taller building U/C in NYC as we speak so it's ok I guess, but I agree with you.

417m is still really tall though

I don't understand how some people actually think One WTC isn't tall enough. It is massive in person.
By the way, I'm sorry but I think that making it 1776 ft, 2001 ft or whatever, is just meaningless symbolism...

Sorry to say it but your post is an ode to defeatism

This building needed to be taller than the Twins, to show strength and progress, I'd say it should have even tried to be the world's tallest for that very same reason. The fact that it is only as tall as the Twins and the second tallest 2WTC is even shorter than the Twins is a huge humiliation

Hey look. Someone finally talks about the city I live in xD

Any who, the tallest building in Denver (Republic Plaza) looks like a house compared to One World Trade Center.

I know you mean altitude wise, but still...
