I agree too, they are beautiful, but I really wish someone would go up and replace all the burned out light bulbs on the roofs of these towers!

First of all, I want to say, "No Offence!" because people here on SSC are so up in arms.

I'm sorry but I don't understand how you say somebody is saying NYC is losing any stature because skyscrapers aren't tallest anymore. In fact, nobody's saying that but just it was just a big disappointment.
In fact, you or me are not the one who needs to worry about cost, space, energy consumption and so on. What we can merely do is look at the towers and praise them at their beauty and their height.
But opposed to what we thought this is indeed a big disappointment, looking at Burj Khalifa or SWFC, which were all planned at the same time.
Yeah, it's true that NYC's name is just incredibly always at the top, but we're just saying it could have been better. I don't see how come anyone talk about the knowledge regarding any sort of grander plan that discusses cost, efficiency, architecture....
Looking at what could have been here than what is here now, always hurts those who think the WTC complex was a seed to "bigger and better" things.
So, I think this is the place where most of us like Skyscrapercitirocks and others can spare our words of distaste and contribute anything...

Once again, "no offence" folks!

@ romanamerican

I support every other view of yours but not that "giving importance to height is laughable" because we are all here for greater heights than merely some better architecture...
Architecture wise, and efficiency wise, IMO, Hearst Tower should be the center of attraction...

Rising from the ashes of 9/11
http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/...-ashes-of-9-11

Quote:
Developer Larry Silverstein expects “every square inch” of the world’s third tallest structure to be occupied by its official opening early next year.

He said: “We are somewhere between 65 and 75 per cent full. I don’t anticipate there will be one per cent left by the time the doors open.”
Quote:
Head of security Doug Farber admits: “It’s impossible to eliminate threat altogether, but this building is all about managing threat, both in terms of construction and security.”

That security begins at ground level, with a base built to withstand a powerful blast and a concrete mix that is the strongest used for a New York City building.

The steel frame is just as tough. When the planes struck in 2001, floors below the impact buckled under the weight, causing a domino effect that led to total collapse.

The new One World Trade Center has beams and columns welded together to distribute weight.

If any two failed in a copycat attack, the rest would “pick up the slack”. Windows encasing the structure are shatterproof and seven traffic intersections outside will be manned by police guard stations.

We are, in effect, building a fortress around One World Trade Center,” admitted Jeff Zupan, at the city’s Regional Planning Association.

Project manager Kenneth Lewis said: “People will be thinking about their personal safety. This building is iconic but not because it looks like a bunker. It’s iconic because it’s a beautiful building.”

As for safety, Stan Conroy, who oversaw every concrete floor being laid, said: “If we did get attacked again, I wouldn’t run from the building, I would run into it.”

With as many icons as he threw into that post unnecessarily, an elaboration would probably just be a page-length scroll through every emoticon offered for use on the site.

I did. NYC's a sight to behold for sure. The tower itself didn't look as massive as some made it out to be, it sure looks tall but that's about it. It's really all about the aesthetics of it, it's definitely elegant looking.
