Yes. That whole area was built from what was demolished to build the original WTC complex.

I love this building, but hate the spire.

Blablabla.....the spire comes with the building;they are ONE entity:One WTC!
Try to look at the building without the spire:dull and blank!
Would you dissociate the Chrysler building and his spire!?
Also, you criticize something that is not even finished;the guy wires are gonna change absolutely the general aspect of what is already an icon.

Is the spire going to be considered part of the building's height? I have heard that the building may not be considered it's full 1776 ft tall.

I don't mind a spire on the building. I just dislike this particular one on 1wtc. Looks like a Christmas decoration or something. The tower itself is stunning though.

Those of you who hated this spire, can you at least give your own (better)design or interpretation to replace the one on top of this magnificent structure? I like the entire design from top to base. It is a done deal, anyone can either put up or shut.

In regards to the spire, I don't see why people should have such a big problem. I think for one, it is something of a NYC trademark. People complained about the antenna on the ESB but if anyone wanted to take it down today I'm certain there would be an outcry. Sears tower is the same, and lets not forget the old North Tower. Give it time and people will warm to it- I personally have no issue with it. IMO I never really liked the renders for the enclosed spire.

Looks like they're installing it on the south-west side of the mast.

Nice they're finally installing the guy wires, but don't they look unexpectedly thin? I mean, they look much thicker in the renderings.
