Yeah...I don't know. Now that the guy wires are in place, suddenly its lost a bit of its allure. Those guy wires just don't look nice imo. It looks like they are holding a rocket to the ground that is about to be launched

Once the tower is fully completed and the construction lights are gone, how is the tower going to be lit in various colors, will the offices lights change colors or what, beside the Antenna/Spire.

LOVE the guy wires. My OCD brain hated the spire up there without the guy wires...I always felt like it would tumble over in a storm or gust and was almost nervous every time I looked at it. Now it feels (and looks) complete, sturdy and tied down.

Spire haters say what you want, I personally think it looks great. Nobody would be complaining about the spire if this was its design from the start.

The tower will have regular office lights, just like any other tower in the city. Only the spire and base will be illuminated. Spire will occasionally change colors.

Don't agree but I'll leave it at that.

Lets redirect. What's everyone's take on the revised base?

I was skeptical about losing the tapering form but accept the formal changes, but you're not the only one I've heard suspicious of the material. Couple friends who visited last week said it seems out of sorts compared to the rest of the building. I can't believe it's that bad but we'll see. We spend so much time looking up I hope the building can retain the quality of character at the pedestrian level. Especially now that the plaza and memorial have become such crucial spaces for NYC.

Seems as though they have begun to dismantle the boardwalk around the 20th floor used for lifting base cladding.

Maybe we'll start the see those gaps in the first floor of glass cladding get filled in!

What is the red thing on the top, and what will it be used for?

I agree it will be very interesting to see what it will end up looking like at street level. I also agree sometimes we forget by looking upwards, its just as important from the ground. IMO 3WTC could trump it by looking more welcoming (when the whole complex is completed). It would be terribly disappointing if that were to happen. I seem to recall 1WTC for being criticized by several papers for looking like a fortress from the street- hopefully it wont be as intimidating as that, but time will tell. I really really hope your friends are wrong on this one!

The base cladding, IMO, looks better now that the fins are being extended. It looks really modern and beautiful I think. I can't wait to see it lit at night. I like that it's a different color than the main part of the building. Although it is very reflective, so you see it reflecting the green trees in the plaza.

Do you have any pictures of this NYdude? The only ones I can find online dont really give perspective with the rest of the building.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but have you guys heard that the Government has issued a WORLD WIDE Travel Alert until Aug 31 due to a strong al-qaeda threat and fear of another attack in the coming weeks?

Could the new WTC be a threat and/or a target?
