This is the "Tear Drop" monument donated by Russia as a memorial for the victims of 9/11

Ahhh, I was about to ask about crane removal when I read previous posts...so I wont : ) Mid August is tomorrow...WOW ! Can't wait to see this building as it will be seen for generations to come...We rush to the point where completion is done but then in hindsight value all that went before...

Wow your ignorance is disgusting. How DARE you come on to a site and simply dismiss a skyscraper because its "simple" and surrounded by "old skyscrapers". If it wasn't for those "old skyscrapers", be it The Chrysler Building, The Empire State Building, Flatiron Building, Woolworth etc. we wouldn't have what we have today.

These buildings are peoples legacies. Great architects with big dreams who worked under the worst conditions possible to reach the skies. You're probably a troll, but still even at that, you're a bad one! Learn to spell!!

Just let it go and save the page from an argument. He's Korean, too, so his English isn't going to be perfect.

You're right. Best just to leave it. I should know better than to even argue with someone like that.

If that is the reason you don't like it, then you likely wouldn't have liked the originals either.

I still don't know what my opinion of the podium is. I hope it doesn't muddy the simple geometric quality of the building.

Wow, this tower is just amazing. I went to New York for the New Year's Eve last year and it was already beautiful! And now it seems that is taking more and more space as a new symbol of the city... =)
I don't know if I'll wait until the whole complex finish to visit NY again. Maybe when WTC 1 opens, I'll be there! haha

PS: keep up the good work guys. For those who live elsewhere than the Big Apple, is very helpful to check the progress from here!

That is an ignorant reason to dislike this tower. Ignorant and very offensive to our culture as well since those older buildings represent our culture, especially the old Art Deco buildings which represents an era of great hardships and uncertainty that we as a nation over came only to rise to the top.

As soon as the podium base is complete, and that "zipper" is zipped up, meaning that outdoor elevator is dismantled, that'll be it. Might be a while though since that is likely the only method to get the supplies up to finish the insides of all those floors. Especially the most important three, the Obs. deck.

What if they got the smaller workers to piggy-back to dismantle the derrick?
here's a link that I found in the One57 thread showing how it's done. Basically they used a tiny hydraulic crane to set up the derrick. I would imagine they will use something similar here to dismantle it. The little crane itself fits in a freight elevator.
