The observation deck won't open till early 2015. We probably won't see any office workers there till next year. Conde Nast isn't supposed to move in till 2015, though we might see a small number next year is my guess.

I think it could get its TCO (temporary certificate of occupancy) by the end of this year. But that really won't mean much as nobody is going to work there but maybe some building staff.

Where have you been the last 4 months?

By the way, chances are high I might visit NYC in the summer of 2015. I know it's still quite a long time to go (I just like to plan things in advance lol), but I'll definitely want to visit the 1WTC observation deck when I'm there.

Has there been any word on a specific opening date, or at least the month it might open? Giving 2015 as the opening date is quite vague, that could very well mean it only opens in November or December.
I'm already crossing all my fingers it will be open by summer '15, because I definitely would be quite annoyed to be there in NYC and know that it will open only a few months after my visit!

I don't think we should be making dates at this point, we've learned that they don't really seem to keep in par with what the PA's or constructions timeline says...example being the spire being done in May instead of March or so...I wouldn't be surprised if it's open sometime in 2014

This is just awesome!
Each fin appears more open at the bottom than at the top. How did they achieve that effect? Is the base slightly tapered?

The fins open gradually from the sides and top towards the center.

I think it's just the angle at which they opened the individual fins, though I could be wrong

Actually, they just increase their degree of angle going downward and begin to close again some 3 quarters of the way down starting from where the top of the entrance is, not from the sides to center. Each panel in the same row has the same degree measure. The top and bottom rows of fins are the only flat rows where the panels are not extended.

Though only the 8 (4 on each side) outercolumns on a corner extend slowly towards the center at a fraction of the fins in the center but it doesnt continue all the to the center.

Yes, I know that. That's what I said... The panels on the sides and top are flat and the ones near the center are the most extended.

The way the angles are set up, the differences in the angles are all the same. I can't remember off the top of my head, so I'll use 5 degrees. The angles are all multiples of 5* degrees, imagine that the panels at all four edges of each face are flat at 0 degrees. The second panel from any outside panel toward the center is set at 5 degrees, the ones inside from there are 10 degrees, than 15, 20, 25, and lastly 30. That is why the transition from flat to to 30 degrees is the most abrupt from the sides, compared to the top and bottom. This is only because of the far greater height than width of each panel. The corners follow the same pattern from both sides, giving them the affect of horizontally increasing angle. The way I achieved the angles in my model was from each side. First row is all flat, second row is 5 degrees in the middle panel, flat every where else. the third row is all flat, 10 degrees in the center, 5 degrees on the panel directly above and below the center panel. This pattern increases until the center is 20 degrees, at which point the center is fully extended and the farthest top and bottom panels are still at 0 degrees. The same is mirrored at the opposite side. This is the most thought I've given this tower in quite a while. I hope this gets rid of any and all confusion with the angles of the fins.

there is a slight blue tint, but it is mostly reflective so it changes with the time of day and weather conditions.

Great light show, but there seems to be a lack of pictures. Just one video?
