That spire looks ever so slightly gothic. Maybe gothic-industrial

I have to say, after watching that outstanding video of the light tests on the spire, I am really impressed and inclined to tip my hat. Truly phenomenal how the light seems to flow in liquid and pulsing motions. Cannot wait to see the many shows it will display in the future and throughout my life span.

I still think the base looks like a giant cheese grater. A very elegant, beautiful cheese grater.

Wait until you see the real deal...that test did not even include the last 1/4 of fixtures that were added/programmed after that video was shot.

I can't wait for everyone to see it and hear their reactions!

I'm not sure this has been posted here, but a good documentary has been released last Spring covering the backroom stories about the design and hurdles of the unveiling of the new master plan of Ground Zero, the Freedom Tower, the museum etc.

It's called "16 Acres"

This is the trailer (it is available on Netflix)

Watching a space rocket projecting itself into Space and viewing the Manhattan skyline sure is a cool combination .

It definitely appears that the derrick is being removed. I sure hope the external elevator (hoist) gets shortened down to about the 41st floor soon and the strip above that floor clad. Why would Condé Nast need access to the roof? Hopefully the internal elevators, stairs, and ladders will suffice for what work remains on the roof and upper mechanical floors. Does anyone here know if there is an internal elevator that goes all the way to the roof?

If the derrick is removed, how do they take down the elevator?

I doubt the external hoist will come down anytime soon. The external hoist is still in place on 4WTC.

Well, who knows how it'll be with 1WTC. Those are two separate buildings so I wouldn't bet on major similarities between the interior work progress, but as I said above, who knows?

Isn't 4 WTC scheduled to be completed by the end of this year? Maybe they can inaugurate it on New Year's Eve, midnight. Maybe they could rival times square!

Honestly, I don't think the spire will be lit up at least not on normal nights. I hope I'm wrong. Maybe it'll be lit up every night! But all they had was a test on July 2nd, and some of the lighting wasn't even in place! But that could be a good thing because if they decide to make an official ceremony, it'll look greater than the test, which I think is the best light show in the world already.

If they don't light it up, there's a very small possibility the CTBUH will not count it as 541 m. But I doubt that'll happen, despite the North Tower's antenna not being counted. That's because it has historical significance. If they don't count it because the North Tower's antenna wasn't counted, it'll be sad.

What is that green thing on the tower? Looks a little like an emerald, but no emerald is that big and floating in the sky.
