Hah, It must some sort of reflection, maybe from the top of one of the WFC buildings. There was a lot of sunlight when I took the picture, so it could be a lot of things

I'd guess it's just some bent light like these bright circles you get from light reflections. Light can play quite some tricks to one's mind or lens

Back on topic. It's a shame they didn't light it up on 9/11 anyway. I would have perferred July 4th anyway. Is the rumor true that they were planning to light it on July 4th but someone just handed in the papers late?

They didn't use a derrick or crane to erect external elevator (hoist), so they don't need one to take it down. I believe these small lift things are used mainly for assembling, maintaining, and disassembling the hoist (they have rarely moved from this spot in months):

Looks like Arawooho's photo actually has some kind of reflection on the curtain wall. However, I captured this EarthCam shot back on September 7th, and it has a similar looking effect, but it is on the lens in this case:

Pretty sure it's going to be lit up in white every night aside from special occasions. Why would they go through the trouble of installing all that nice lighting on it if they were only going to use it a handful of times a year and leave it dark most of the time? That wouldn't really make much sense. I think they might just be waiting for the grand opening of the building to start lighting it, I don't know.

It will definitely be lit up on a nightly basis. Most often in White, and colors/programmed motion lighting on special occasions and holidays. What makes you think it wouldn't be lit up nightly?? Btw, I think we can COUNT on a special ceremony for the first time the spire and the beacon are turned on for good.

I think that was accurate about getting all the proper paperwork completed in time, but the truth of the matter is that most of the fixtures for the bottom sections of the spire weren't even installed back in July. My preference is to see the completed design when it's finished and not a day earlier. And honestly, I hope the first official lighting of the spire and beacon happens on a day of no significance. That way, it can get all the press and coverage that it deserves.

Paperwork was completed on time, it was PA heads who decided not to turn the mast on 4th of July.

You guys' confidence of the building's spire being lit up every night makes me feel better. And speaking of the opening, what are they going to do? Just cut a ribbon or something or have one of those big inaugurations like the Burj Khalifa's?

And by the way, derrick completely gone!

I hope so too. If they just decide to cut a ribbon during the day and let the workers in it'll be disappointing, even though this is an awesome building.
