cool, what a look! At first it reminds me a Little bit of Hong Kong...would be great if there would be soon a Skyscraper development at the other side of the big apple...connected with a spectacular skybridge

It reminded me of the International Commerce Center at first. I hope New Jersey has a few supertalls so New York will be even better when connected with New Jersey! But there's no bridge connecting Lower Manhattan and Jersey City, so we might as well build one!

I don't know why you would feel sorry for Durst of all people. According to the NYT his net worth in 1997 was $650 million. Let me go grab my small violin.

Jersey City should build more buildings. Why? You would get to stare at that amazing Manhattan skyline everyday!

At first I thought that the above pic was of 2IFC in HK. Pelli is one of my favorites.

His vision itself wasn't that pretty, but he had great concepts.

Also, I think America's greatest building is more important than one boneheaded Douglas Durst. Sure, he put 1 WTC's official height in jeopardy, but don't we forgive? I think it would be really mean to expose his mistake to save money rather than to just overlook it. We all need money, and 15 million dollars or something is a great price.

And what would this building be without its spire! It would be a monstrosity! If they kept the randome, my username would be "Taipei 101" or "Shanghai Tower" rather than "onewtclover"! Imagine the building without its spire. It's not dominant. It looks cut off at one end. It looks ugly!

And competition shouldn't make this tower 1,368 feet or 1,373 feet or whatever. Let's face it: America's not that competitive right now with its buildings compared to the middle east or Asia, especially China. If we only have a 1,368 feet building, there wouldn't be much of a difference in height with the Nordstrom Tower or Hudson Yards. If it was 1,776 feet, America would at least be proud of one building that is in the world's top ten list!

But anyway, I don't want to make an argument or anything, and I respect your opinion, but I just want to say something about my favorite tower. And by the way, the CTBUH would probably count it anyway because if they didn't, it would be an embarrassment for me and Larry Silverstein, and maybe even for Durst! But I never new the decision date was November 8, so thanks for the info. I'm marking my calendar for the "big day".
I personally hope the antenna won't be counted to the official height. I think the thin steel stick on top of 1WTC is an antenna, though I don't really care whether it is a spire or an antenna cause I think a thin steel stick should never count towards height and cheating this way brings shame to a building in my eyes. I'd rather have 417m without cheating than 541m with cheating

Thanks for voicing your opinion. I guess most of us don't want the antenna to be counted. I wonder if anyone agrees with MY point of view.

100% agree. The "spire" is far too unsubstantial to be considered part of the height. Others can call this 541m, but try comparing this up against a real 500+m building. This doesn't stand a chance.

Don't get me wrong, it is generally a very nice building, but not 541m.
And to use a comparison in the city, if you are going to count this, why not count the spire on the Conde Nast Building? They aren't really that different after all.

Does anyone have the latest rendering of this northwest section of the plaza? I know that it was redesigned a couple of years ago (making it look worse in my opinion), but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

because the one on 4TS was not originally apart of the building's design.

If you look on the WTC cam on EarthCam, the one that zooms in on the top and spire, you can see white objects on it. Would those be lights? I'm not sure.

I'm sorry, but could you please be more specific? I don't know what to look for, maybe someone else understands. The lights for the base of the mast will be/are mounted on the rings though.
