Oh, right. About that. Back on topic!

Do you think it'll be lit up on 9/30? Seems arbitrary to me, but the beacon liftoff was on May 10.

Sorry, human sources, so nothing to cite, or websites to link. I'm hoping they do put the word out in the media though, so people will be prepared to watch it happen. Early indications are that they are not planning to do a special ceremony like we heard earlier, but that may just be because my sources don't know about it in particular.

that's how I expect we'll know for sure when it will happen. when they hoisted the beacon to the doghouse platform they sent out photo opportunity notices to media stations, and we know the result of that with so many videos and pictures today of that occurring.

also if anyone didn't know, there's a 'new' live stream camera from earthcam in Jersey City that cam be viewed here

As a bonus two more of this fish-eye type pictures, although not related to 1WTC, but I think they are pretty cool. The same guy has some others if you want to check them out.

Part of me wants them to make that Elevator notch on the side permanent and glass it in as part of the building ... adds a nice asymmetry to the tower IMHO. Give every floor a mini observation deck ...

What? The sooner it is gone, the better. That's like leaving paving machines on the side of the road every 5 miles.

I'm going in Orlando in November, on my first trip to the USA, and I was in doubt if I should spend a couple of days in NYC. This thread almost made me change the entire plans and spend half of the time there... Any hopes the building will be ready after Nov. 20th?

Well, I think externaly it'll be ready, however it'll open in 2014 and the observation deck will open in 2015

Well, I think that no matter if this building is completed or not, it always worth going to New York, and spend as much time as you can there, that is my opinion.

I mean do a proper glassing in of the notch. I don't mean leave it an open truss ... make it part of the structure ... clean glass treatments on it ...

I really hope they don't light it up when we don't expect it, like the beacon lifting or the test (well, I'm okay with the July 2nd test because all the lighting wasn't in place and it was only a test, but they should have tested it in the day). I really hope you're right about this, but it you're wrong, it's not your fault.

When the randome was about to get scrapped, I treated it as a rumor. Just like the rumor that it was painted white. Or that it was going to be lit on 9/11. Some became true, like the May 2nd rooftop lift, or the randome scrapping, but some of them weren't, like the painting white thing.

The only reason I feel this will ever be lit on a regular basis and not only on special occasions or not being lit at all is because of you guys' confidence. Without that, I would have given up on the lighting.

Had to post this for my 350th post!

I can't believe I'm this far already. I feel like just yesterday, the Kingdom Tower was a vision, Ping An was a hole, Shanghai Tower only had one row of cladding done, One World Trade Center was 80 floors high, 3 World Trade Center was still a hole, One57's crane broke, and 432 Park Avenue was only 10 floors high.

And thanks all you guys for guiding me through these buildings' wonderful construction, answering my questions, giving updates, and giving information. It was really helpful. I'm glad you contribute so we don't have to.

So thanks again, and stay tuned for my 1,776 post! It'll be a specially picked render I have in my mind, so can anyone tell me how to take pictures from google images and post them here?

Pick a pic there, right mouse click, choose copy URL, paste the URL here in your post between '''' so this http://cdn.cstatic.net/images/gridfs...eet_Medium.jpg will be this

I'm not sure how far your travelling from but going to the states & not spending any time in NYC is insane.
It's a must and recommend you go!
That's like going to Italy and not going to the Colosseum, in Rome Italy 😉

Let me try.

This isn't the one I want to show you, so no worries about spoiler alerts. (Although you've probably seen the rendering.)

Edit: Didn't work.
