Maybe, it's only me but the current illumination of the spire looks too childish. I'd rather they lit it up in golden color like Conde Nast Building's.

There is no "current" illumination. That was just a test. They'll be able to light up the spire in literally any conceivable color, either uniformly or segmented as in that picture.

hooray for anarchy! somebody jumped the gun earlier and base jumped from a building near the site.
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer...-building.html

in other news (sorta, not new to us)...

http://nypost.com/2013/09/09/develop...in-early-2014/

Quote:
One World Trade Center, formerly known as the Freedom Tower, is scheduled to be completed in early 2014. The 104-story building at the northwest corner of the 16-acre trade center site is topped by a spire that reaches the symbolic height of 1,776 feet. Its anchor tenant will be Conde Nast, the publisher of magazines including Vogue, GQ and Vanity Fair. A three-level observation deck called One World Observatory will open in 2015.

I still wonder how short-sighted the building's policy has been from the very beginning.
1,373ft? Well, that's not enough. How things are going in New York, this will be a tower amongst many:

217W57th: 1,550ft
432 PA: 1,398ft
111W57th: 1,350ft
2WTC: 1,349ft
HY North: 1,337ft

And there are still some projects which could end up 1,300ft+. Not to mention new proposals this decade alone ...

... so one has to aks: Quo vadis 1WTC?

But, apart from 2WTC which is designed to compliment 1WTC in appearance, the others are all in midtown, so won't detract from the scale of 1WTC.

Does anyone know the lighting plan on the base?

The above photo is beautiful but the office floors just glow, the base does not due to the concrete behind it - I wonder if theres a plan to make it match? Or floodlighting/spotlighting?

Apologies if this has been covered already, (but I couldn't find anything despite trawling back).

Damn! The current illumination thing was a slip of tongue.
Anyways, it would look childish if it would be lit that way.

I think this was covered a very long time ago, so it's not your fault you don't know. Probably before I even joined.

So anyway, I'm pretty sure the glowing effect of the office floors isn't permanent- they're probably going to light the building like they depict in the renders. What we see right now is just construction lights. Here's a picture:

As you can see, I guess they're going to light the base completely. Or they can do something like this:

Actually, I think this is how the base is going to be lit. Anyway, they might just decide to light up the building like a normal building, except on special occasions I guess. But the base is going to be illuminated, I'm almost sure of that.
