I believe that the communications ring will fill up with dishes and antennas as slots are sold to telecom companies and to building tenants ... its not coming "fully loaded"

Yeah, the dishes have not been scrapped. We need to be patient. They'll be up there before we know it.

There's no way they would scrap the dishes. Unlike the radome, these have a function.

Well, not to take your point off here, but the radome had also a function : Hide that hiddeous soviet style antenna.

When they decided to scrap the radome, they should have at least redesigned the antenna. I don't know if someone could photoshop it but the antenna on The former twins would look much better than this one. And correct me if I am wrong but it had no radome. If tthey could do better twenty years ago, there is absolutely no excuse to explain this huge mistake.

I know, I know, we will get used to it, but only because we don't have any other choice.

I have to agree. The antenna is awful. Frankly, I'm disappointed in the entire WTC project. The whole reconstruction effort has been a giant embarrassing clusterf#ck. We can count on the communications rings not looking like the renders either. They won't be as uniform in appearance, evenly distributed, and perfectly positioned of course; it'll end up being be an unsightly hodgepodge.

As an outsider I don't even remember anybody at all complaining about the planned radome spire enclosure yet a large amount of people complaining about the lack of aesthetics of the current spire. I personally dislike both the base (design change for this one is somewhat still acceptable) and the current spire which indeed should have been sleeker/smoother/elegant to complement the building instead of reducing its general appeal.

This kind of complaining originates because before these changes in design were made people were expecting a building with a flawless, top quality design (at least what it looked like in renders) and now they still cant cope with the compromises that had to be made because they think that these changes made the building to go from exceptional to not-so-special in terms of aesthetics because it was one of its strongest if not the strongest point (since it cant compete in height).

I can assure you, there were plenty of us who found the radome-enclosed design awkward, and prefer the open skeleton version. I personally find the more industrial, steel look in keeping with the style of other spires around the city -- although certainly that's just a lucky accident, as it wasn't designed to be seen.

I have a completely opposite view, who cares if it is in line with other spires in the city (they are way over in midtown) if it completely misfits the building itself. The building manifests in sharp straight lines and smooth cladding and requires a spire that is sleek, bright and sharp. The original spire might not be a prefect example of that but it still fit the building nicely. On the other hand whenever I see closeup pictures of this thing...

You have to take note that I am talking purely from the point of aesthetics not functionality.
