This from CTBUH.

On November 8, the CTBUH Height Committee is slated to make a decision regarding how to calculate the role of One World Trade Center spire/antenna structure in its architectural height, immediately following the CTBUH 2013 Awards Symposium at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Hard to separate the communications ring from the spire IMO. They look visually consistent.
No matter how the CTBUH will rule, to me this is a building with an antenna construction on the roof. Just like Willis Tower of JHB. And with so many super tall outside the US dwarfing WTC1, the actual height is really not important at all.

What is important is the fact that this is a beautiful tower which I hope will be very successful Hopefully WTC2 & WTC3 will complete the scene soon.

I think the so called "spantenna" is really a spire. It may not look like a spire, but it is. Just imagine 1 World Trade Center without the spire and communication rings. It'd look like it was "cut off", even though in reality it tapers gracefully. Now imagine the building with the communication rings, but with no antenna. Does it look that much better? I don't think so. And here's a list of some other buildings with spires that you might consider cutting off:
1. Taipei 101 (wouldn't look so great, would it?)
2. Petronas Towers (not bad, but it would look like the Empire State Building without an antenna)
3. Trump International Hotel and Tower (I could live with it. But I'd prefer the spire.)

Would you rather have this:

Or this?

And I think scrapping the randome was a redesign, because we can clearly see the spire, can't we? It's different than taking off the cladding in the building. If we put equipment right on the building (attached to the windows, something like that) is it a building, or a freestanding structure?

Wow, incredible base cladding progress on the East fašade! The Southern half (left of the external elevator) is only a few panels from completion.

The Willis Tower's antennas look much more visually consistent than 1 WTC's and Petronas Towers' spires.
CTBUH rules are ridiculous.

Uhm I guess the permanent lanes of west street long the trade center are officially open? Looking at the cams it shows traffic flowing on them!

Also into opinion the rings are what makes the mast flow...without them it would look a bit ridiculous I feel.

Many people really care about the spire being counted as part of the height because the building is intended to be a symbolic 1,776 feet tall.

Hopefully this is a sign that the east hoist system will be going away soon, or at least shortened. The car used to assemble (and eventually disassemble) the hoist's "common tower" had been parked here since at least late May:

But recently it has moved to the base:

This video shows what the car is used for:

Very disrespectful to all the hard working workers who brought the site back.

People fail to mention that "One World Trade Center" isn't the only building to make up for, we have 2-3 WTC. Even 4 WTC, which always seems to get left in the dust.

I couldn't stomach reading the rest of that after saying it's a betrayal for all those who died on 9/11. What exactly are those giant pools for again?
