So... One must speak in the tone you approve of, kowtow to the powers that be and somehow be a professional writer to have an opinion?

And yet here you are posting publicly, without any of those.

Hmmmmm

My point stands. You cannot accept a view that is not your own.

Guys, two things....

1) Can you please stay on topic and quit attacking each other? It's ruining the forum.

2) I'm hearing a little chatter about the possibility of the spire lighting being turned on Wednesday night. I am NOT saying this will happen definitively, so don't claim that I did (you know who you are). It could be just a rumor, but for those of you living in NYC, you may want to keep an eye on the sky in two nights.

Shut up. You had your point, but now you're just making yourself look like an ass.

I think that guy/gal banksy wrote that article just to piss off N.Y. for some unknown reason. I love the new WTC tower. I wish it was built here in San Fran.

This thread hasn't been locked in a long time, it would be a shame if it went down now just before the tower is complete.

Coming back to CONSTRUCTION, what this forum is mainly about, yesterday the area in front of the southern entrance has been poured. Probably some more layers of waterproofing etc. will be added on top, though, before we arrive at the final surface

In truth, I don't think that the WTC replacement is as bad as many a critic suggest. Yet given the fact that its architect is Poland-born Libeskind there was this muted expectation of some sort of a chiseled, daring Old World finesse to eventually mark off the look of the building. Sadly this ain't the case and the fact that the spike is so outrageously tall makes the whole thing seem even brasher (i.e. self-assertive in an overbearing way). What Libeskind did was to go for an updated version of the Warsaw Palace of Culture to cater for the contemporary American taste.
All in all, the tower did not need this extra rather macho adornment whatever its practical purpose or hidden symbolism. NYC deserved better than that.

That said, I think that One WTC has to be applauded as something in which hard work has been invested. It definitely hasn't been easy to complete it so we must not look down on it...
True, I'd expected it to be more elusive yet demanding as an architectural statement. The tower does not "propose" anything other than showing it is a classical skyscraper of the "taller the better" sort. But the problem is not the height but its "fear" to be provocative, its reluctance to be futuristic enough to (be)fit the turbulent yet exciting times we live in.

If you're staying for a while in a city, I think it's best not to piss off the locals.
