[QUOTE=ThatOneGuy;108525953] Those towers aren't on that site, though. They're too close to the 'stepped' building.

Correct Those towers are not located in that open patch but they are part of the former con ed development site. That open patch is what jds is trying to buy from Solow to develop it as an expansion to their 616 first ave project. Hopefully, they succeed cuz Solow has no intentions doing anything with that property anytime soon. Nuts!

Those copper towers are pukeworthy : That plot should be either a supertall or a park

I always wondered how it would have looked if 1WTC was 1776 to the roof and 2001 to the pinnacle. So I made a sketch up model, comparing with the original. Taller one's proportions were kinda awkward.

It means no content following. I wrote something by mistake, and erased it, after deciding it wasn't worthy of posting, and no I am not a hipster either. Just another skyscraper geek.

No problem man. I actually googled it and it kept coming back as a financial company. Figured that wasn't it
I can see the "off topic police" circling, so my apologies

They will not be lighting the rings. Not unless they do it sometime later in the future, but that's not part of the plan for now.

Also, someone else asked why they light it up at 2-3AM....They do that for the tests, because they want to try to get everything dialed in just right before they turn it on permanently. They don't want a lot of exposure on an unfinished product, so they test it when the fewest people will see it.

Btw, THIS Wednesday sounds like it could be the permanent turn-on night for the spire lights assuming a couple of last-minute issues can be resolved by then.

Once again, keep an eye on the sky that night....

You've been a big help, Cap'n!

Thanks for letting us know in advance about the mast lightings.

Tallest building council decision pushed back to next week
http://my.chicagotribune.com/#sectio.../p2p-78050360/

Quote:
For months now, skyscraper buffs have awaited a ruling from a little-known Chicago-based group that will settle whether New York's One World Trade Center or Chicago's Willis Tower has bragging rights as the nation's tallest building.

They're going to have to wait a little longer.

The height committee of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat was expected to announce a decision Friday on the arcane technical question of whether One World Trade Center's mast should be considered a spire or a broadcast antenna. That will determine if the skyscraper's official height is 1,776 feet, about 325 feet taller than Willis.

But while the committee still plans to meet Friday afternoon and will hear from speakers including David Childs, One World Trade Center's architect, the organization has postponed an announcement of its sure-to-be-controversial decision until next week.

"We want to get the communication of that (discussion) and the decision of the committee correct," the executive director, Antony Wood, said Monday. He declined to specify a day when the ruling, which will be made behind closed doors, will be revealed.

The council's decision will be closely watched, especially in New York, where many observers consider it unlikely — and unthinkable — that an obscure, Chicago-based organization of architects, engineers, developers and building owners would disrupt a politically charged feature of architect Daniel Libeskind's master plan to replace the destroyed twin towers.

Libeskind called for a 1,776-foot skyscraper....

Can't wait until this is finally over, so everyone can shut up about the damn thing.

People are still gonna call this the US tallest building no matter what the decision is. It's been advertised for so long that it's melted into people head, and only us Skyscraper geeks will really care/know(if it's declared a spire or not).

No matter what they decide, there will still be people that say the spantenna should not be counted in the official height or those who say it should be counted. I think it will be interesting to see what they rule.

The "spire" is actually an antenna, but hopefully it will be included as part of the official height.

I hope they don't use some tacky Las Vegas-inspired color scheme for the antenna. Keep it classy, 1WTC.
