Probably a stupid question to some forumers, but just wondering how difficult of a "plan" that would be to put it all together on something of this magnitude. Also Shanghai Tower has a look like it's almost built "like it's leaning backwards" from certain angles. Just something I think is cool and unique with these 2 structures.
Don't know about the former, but I think that latter effect is achieved by undulating the frame of the outer skin, if I'm not mistaken.

I think you're mis-counting your sides. There are 8 triangular sections, 4 each originating at the base and at the top, which are two squares rotated 90 degrees from each other. So the shape of every floor is an octagon (8-sided), and all the windows are slanted inwards. Hope this helps! It also took me a while to wrap my head around the design.

I vaguely remember somebody saying there was a chance that the spire would be lit on a permanent basis starting tonight. Is that a figment of my imagination?

This is not an antenna. It is oviously a spire because it has no communications equipment on it. We have communications rings for that

Doesn't appear the mast and beacon will be lit tonight.

Not unless they turn it on late at night again......

Confirmed by Mr. Durst!

1 WTC is offically 2,144 FT tall!

On a serious matter, I'm sure he meant to say 1,776.

Let me just answer this for everyone.

The thing on top of the building is a half-assed MAST that was originally constructed so that ANTENNAS could be attached to the MAST. This SKELETON of the MAST was never intended to be viewed externally. The MAST was going to hold ANTENNAS that were going to be covered by a RADOME. The MOUNTING POINTS for the future antennae are clearly evident on certain portions of the MAST

Unfortunately, a man named DURST decided that the RADOME was too expensive. Instead, we are left with the aforementioned MAST that can still hold ANTENNAS, but does not have a RADOME.

Call it WHATEVER you want.

I think it looks just fine without the randome, sure with the randome would be nice, but even without it i think its still nice. From some angles the antenna looks huge, so imagine adding a randome to that it might have looked more ridiculous then anything else.
