I'm not sure how to feel about the radome. I think it was a little fat and looked out of place with the building.
A thinner radome would have been good.
But then again, the spire doesn't look half bad as it is now, espically when it was lit up.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a shit what the CTBUH says tomorrow? 1WTC is beautiful no matter what they say about the spire.

Their decision isnt about whether the building is beautiful or not. It is about an objective statistic. This building does not deserve to be called 1776 feet tall just because it has a massive antenna on top.

You most certainly are NOT the only one who "doesn't give a shit" about what the CTBUH says tomorrow. 99.9% of the population doesn't care one way or the other.

However, I do find it a little curious that someone like you, who has posted in excess of 3000 times on an arcane website devoted so largely to the appreciation and categorization of skyscrapers, doesn't give a shit.

I think either way it works out great, If its counted, we have the tallest building in the country, if not, towers like 225 west and 432 park avenue get more fame for being taller then the WTC, or even (225 west) potentially tallest in the country.

You're not the only one. I could less what they agree on. The height is still there regardless if they count it or not so the "official height" don't mean jack shit. It's a great building and perhaps if they decide not to count it, it will be a slap in the face to the people who decided to make the parapet 1,368' or to Durst who scrapped the radome design even though he had no business getting involved with that. The schmuck is a real estate developer, his job is to attract tenants by making the tower appealing from the inside, not mar the appearance of the building from the outside. Either way, this Tower has the highest pinnacle in the U.S. because the height is there, you just pretend it isn't. It's practically almost the height of Willis Tower in terms of the roof. The main roof deck without the penthouse is like 1,432' and the rings are about 1,402'. Close enough.

Is that strip of light near the middle of the tower the location of the sky lobby? Lovely picture by the way.

The tower is a disgrace. It marks the fall of New York and its demystifation. Shame on those who planned and built it. Is there nothing better and more befitting they could have come up for this glorious city?

They will forever regret why it was not make a little taller than its actual height.

more or less I think the spire is a very important part of that building...417 m to the Roof....541 m to the top of the spire...difference 124m!!!!!!! without spire...that building would be boring...I hope the Tower is stable and could survive an airplane attack...? Does anybody knows what they have done for evacuation this time? The best plan would be probably to built 20 more Towers...higher and bigger...so the Terrorist are irritated and don't know which Tower thes should Chose ;-) Sorry...bad joke...I know...fortunately al kaida is calm the last years...and I think 9/11 was not in the whole eastern world a good Symbol...such a real strange world we live in...we kill us because of religions...thats insane...really insane...
Hope Chicago spire will built...but the us economy doesn't work so good...therefore there is a lake of Investors :-(

Personally I think the real meaning behind this tower is the rise that Americans had from 9/11 and it commemorates the lost lives from that day. They shouldn't be worrying about the height because the more they do, the more it looses its meaning. I think yes the spire should NOT be part of the height because it's just an antenna with a light on the tip. Just remember that this tower was built for a memory of something that was there before and not to get higher than before necessarily.

Whats stunning about the tower? A 1300 feet tower masqurading as a 1776 feet tower. If only the planners and builders were a little bit more ambitious, courageous and bold, maybe i would have totally agreed with you.

I think that's the 63rd floor.

It's where Durst has been giving tours of the tower, trying to draw in tenants.

Today's the first day of snow this Winter

For me this beautiful tower is a extra reason to visit NYC! The real shame is that Tower 2, 3 are missing in the collection because of bad management and economic collapse...
