To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about the lobby. It seems so small and looks like it's going to be a nightmare in the morning. Those huge blast walls take up so much space. It does kind of give that bunker feel that they were trying to avoid.

It may seem small just by looking at it unfinished and through a picture, but once it is complete and you see it in person, I'm sure you will change your mind.

Pmarella is one of my favorite photographers on Flickr.

He takes great sunrise shots of Lower Manhattan.

Everytime when I see new amazing skyline-pictures from the WTC I start to visualize how it would be when 3WTC and 2WTC join the group by drawing them in my imagination.......

I think NYC should be glad that it turned out to be like this instead of the previous designs/plans which where imo a disgrace of the the NYC-stature, especially the former 1WTC designs with strange glass structures on top of it.

And maybe one day the spire will get a sort of upgrade with covering too but untill then it looks also amazing.

The twisting tower with birdcage on top was actually a more interesting and ICONIC design than this corporate banality which has very little personality. I like the current tower well enough, its just not something to which the average joe would care to give a second glance really.

Its design evokes the original twin towers. That is what 'average joe' cares about more, and what was the right thing to do.

Designing the new WTC to be gaudy and highly conspicuous would have turned it into a mawkish monument to the American dead.

The best tribute to the 9/11 victims is a pragmatic skyscraper with a - relatively - conservative design. What's the phrase? New York just gets on with things?

I'm not a photographer, and nor do I have the money for a decent camera.

And I have nothing to prove to anyone on this site. I'll expect the same respect I give to others, given to me. Rather than accusing me of something I'm not.

Welcome back, Mockai/Filippe.

Hey Thatonegirl, don't bully Controv3rsy, he is a great contributor to this forum. What have you ever contributed, that gives you the right to attack him?

Sounds great in theory. Truth is, you'd NEVER be able to get the kind of dramatic effects/consistent coverage/uniformity of light on the spire if the radome were in place. There are 80 light fixtures on the spire platforms that would otherwise be covered up by the radome enclosure, which would require the entire spire from bottom to top to be lit from the spire base and the top and bottom communication rings. It just simply wouldn't be as nice of a lighting result. The lower portion of the spire would be drastically brighter than the top portion, and that's not the look they wanted.

It's my opinion/theory that this was actually a huge consideration in the decision to remove the radome. I believe the maintenance excuse was just that...an excuse. Not sure why they didn't mention the lighting when explaining their reasoning behind the elimination of the radome?

That's true. I think how the spire looks is most important at night, when it is lit, so this is one of the reasons (but not the only one) why I like the unclad spire more than the radome clad one
