Doesn't the NYPD realize that if they do this nobody would want to come into the WTC? It'd be like going through ******* border patrol... Sure, it may be good in terms of security, but I think they are just going overboard now

people need to learn to read...

Pedestrians and bicyclists would be free to come and go, the police said, “although cyclists may be required to dismount to walk their bicycles through security stations.”
if being checked bothers you in any way, then don't drive through the WTC 'campus'

Still, I thought this is what the Vehicle Screening Center is for, only difference is that is located underground and scans any vehicle that wants to enter the garage. I don't think they need both...

That's not even good for security. It's very gestapo and martial law in its style. Its creating an unnecessary police state in the perimeter.

the security is bullshit but would you rather have a car bomb blow up in your face or go through a 10min check point more or less depending on traffic
in order to drive into the site you decide

A rendering of proposed security measures near the World Trade Center site that residents call onerous.
I was in East Germany just after the Berlin Wall fell and some checkpoints looked exactly like this render. I am already steering clear from the 9/11 Memorial due to its airport-style security. I guess I won't be driving near these Orwellian contraptions either.

We've lost a lot of 'freedom' in the last 13 years.

But why even make those streets within the complex if nobody can drive through them? That's total nonsense. Security is a good thing, paranoid security is a good thing, but ridiculous security like this is a bad thing

If that is the concern then why don't we place security check points on every street in each city and every suburban road? We might as well place TSA checkpoints at every mall so we won't have to worry about someone with a bomb walk through. This is the new mentality of a paranoid nation.

As much as i like this building, I do wish they'd rebuilt the originals. They were so iconic and it would have been a proper symbol of defiance to rebuild them. I actually went up the original observation dock in 1987 when i was young in my one and only visit to the States. Its actually one of my first memories. I clearly remember looking down and my Dad saying 'don't the cars look like toy cars'. Its so sad they are no longer there. Saying that though i do think the footprints of the towers make a powerful rememberence centre and hopefully in time this tower and the other new WTC buildings can be iconic in their own right.

We are paying for the mistakes that the Government should have "fixed" a long time ago. For starters the borders. If they watch who they let in this country, we wouldn't have terrorists to begin with. Of course people will say oh, it costs money. That's ok we're already trillions in debt. Who gives a shit anymore. Surely they can protect the borders instead of worrying about their damn bonuses and raises. They are turning the WTC into a police state. The people who perished there would not want this. The original WTC was so open and free. Security should have been better prepared for truck bombs but that's the owners fault, the Port Authority. They didn't think ahead like the architects & engineers and anticipate anything that could be fatal to the Towers. The Port Authority couldn't protect the buildings from the air and they shouldn't have to. It's not the Port Authority's fault for 9/11. You have other agencies to blame for that. Ray Kelly will be gone in less than two months. They will likely discontinue the stop-and-frisk. The problem is they are protecting specified areas. God forbid they attack somewhere else in the city where they aren't secure. You can't protect everything. Like I said, watch who comes into the country and everything will be fine. Period.

Indeed, freedom is not free and it has cost the lives of many young men and women. However, the risk and frisk is a very anti-constitutional and gestapo style measure. The Nazis used similar measures. As Benjamin Franklin said those who desire security of liberty deserve neither.

Elevated Park at Trade Center Site Comes Into View
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/21/ny...view.html?_r=0

The World Trade Center’s best-kept secret has finally come to light...

The current space where the proposed park will be built.

Quote:
It is an elevated park, slightly larger than an acre and 25 feet above Liberty Street, that will command a panoramic view of the National September 11 Memorial when it opens to the public, probably in 2015.

Liberty Park, as it is called, is meant to offer a pleasant and accessible east-west crossing between the financial district and Battery Park City; to create a landscaped forecourt for the new St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church; to provide a gathering space for as many as 750 people at a time; to allow visitors to contemplate the whole memorial in a single sweeping glance from treetop level; and to serve as the roof of the trade center’s vehicle security center.

For the moment, the park is an empty concrete expanse. The pedestrian bridge over West Street that will connect it to Battery Park City — the bridge that survived the Sept. 11 attack — currently falls several yards short of its future landing spot.
