The spire is fine. It's the donut below that is throwing everything off. Because it's a solid, dark blob that contrasts with the slick, mirror-smooth surface of the main tower.

When it gets some dishes hanging on it, the shape will soften and balance will be restored.

Mark my words. Look at the renders with and without the telecommunications equipment. It's like night and day. The industrial, stripped down look works if it has a purpose.

It'll probably be a couple of years before dishes are placed on the communication ring. And for all we know, the dishes could look far worse than what we're thinking. Look at all the shit on the ESB.

This view reminds me of alot of photos posted by CarloV, over at SSP.

It begins as a square, twists into an octagon, and ends as a square again. Genius.

Did you read the article that this was featured in? WOW for a writer who is actually doing an article on 1WTC, I simply cannot believe how lazy and false some of the information is. He states he was actually in the USA looking at the building- reading this you wouldn't believe it! This part below particularly caught my eye.

"for now number One stands proud of lower Manhattan's concrete canopy - all 104 storeys of it, that minus a telecommunications mast gives an overall height of 1,776 ft and makes it the tallest structure in the Western Hemisphere"

because of its octagonal shape its silhouette also changes depending on the angle you view it from.

It really does look completely different from any angle. It's one of the things, in my opinion, that makes it such an interesting and beautiful tower. In that photo the whole tower appears to twist 45 degrees.

It really bugs me when I hear "tallest in the western hemisphere" because it seems a lot of people forget about the CN Tower, but it doesn't bother me too much. I know that many people feel that we got cheated with this tower due to design changes but I couldn't care less about others criticisms of One WTC like, the spire should not be counted in height, or the base looks like a bunker, or the building looks ugly. In my opinion, it is a beautiful skyscraper that represents America's ability to rebuild and recover from tragedy and that's all that matters to me. Just my

Minus the telecommunications mast it's 1,374 feet. What an ignorant writer.

Imagine that view with the spire lit up and the beacon turned on and the east elevator removed and construction lights replaced with permanent lights on both towers and 2 and 3 complete... THAT would be TRULY amazing...

All good OK...I just post this here as it is a great overview of the WTC site and what was and we now know what is...Look where the new One WTC is now and the towers are the memorials pools and waterfalls, the WFC is there and ...well...the world is a completely different place. Amazing......

Exactly my point. He got paid to write that. You would have thought a bit more research was needed!

I still think 1WTC should have been aligned with the North Tower pool and they could have recreated the circle driveway (with security obviously) instead of that plaza. It's too far away from the other towers IMO.

Sure Here's the link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-25052027

Unfortunately the journalist didn't get his facts straight, as he says, "the radome that protects number One's battery of telemetric equipment is cast as a latter-day version of the eye atop the masonic pyramid on the American dollar bill." .... and we all know the mast never got it's radome, and currently doesn't even have equipment mounted on it!

I believe that vision was actually a prank, but I have to admit that it would have been the perfect rebuilt World Trade Center. It was in all intends and purposes perfect in every possible way. But it is unrealistic now and unless Braod pulls off a miracle in Changsha, which I doubt, it will be unrealistic for decades to come.
