Unfortunately the journalist didn't get his facts straight, as he says, "the radome that protects number One's battery of telemetric equipment is cast as a latter-day version of the eye atop the masonic pyramid on the American dollar bill." .... and we all know the mast never got it's radome, and currently doesn't even have equipment mounted on it!

Interesting angle, the tower looks really "fat" here, like it's the North Tower standing alone.

Yep! Remember though that the tower is about the same dimensions as the Twin Towers, except when looking at certain angles you can see that it tapers.

This graphic I did using MS Paint for the image, and MS Powerpoint for the words.

I've experienced that multiple times before. I even remember seeing the original WTC there.

Since the footprint is exposed for the original towers I propose they build 2001ft recreations of the original towers on the site, that would be awesome. Miss these old towers. Trying to love the new tower.

I love the building, but I have to admit that the base does look like a bunker. The glass if anything, adds to this.

Could have been a lot worse and be an actual bunker; with just concrete, no glass.

I haven't been following this post, but what does it even look like from the inside? (The lobby / first floors)

It does, indeed, look like a stiff solid bunker as a base upon which the rest of the monolith rests, but I actually like it when you're viewing the tower as a whole. It does make the tower appear bland and inaccessible when you're viewing from street level, though. No transparency, unlike the original towers.

This is a post I did a while ago showing some renderings of the lobby upon completion. The only part the general public will be able to see in the base is the lobby as the first 19 floors are mechanical. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...ostcount=51994

It now looks even less accessible than WTC Tower 1/2.. Is that even a good thing? Suppose some ''terrorists'' will infiltrate the building and planning on capturing it, they have some nifty defensive positions now, opposed to the original towers which had windows everywhere. It's also looking pretty claustrophobic now..

Well, thanks, anyway!

The lobby, to me, looks nice, but pretty tight considering the blast walls take up a major part of it.

Just remember it's for your protection. That base is the strongest part of the whole buildings incase something would happen.

Well yeah, I understand. We can't ever get it just the way we want it. The blast walls add a unique feature to the building, I just don't like the sheer amount of mass it takes up.

Well, I think the base only has about 7 or 8 floors for mechanical use. I think the lobby counts in that 19. Not sure though
