For those interested in the floor numbering, there's interesting info on my last diagram. Wish I could've had the time to continue with those. Good memories

I will be in Manhattan on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress being made on WC1. My uncle lives only a few blocks away near the Beekman Tower.

There are no words to express how impressed and amazed I am at the beautiful photos posted on this thread. They are gorgeous. My own pictures never come close to any of these!

Why do they say the office floors start at 20th floor if there is only 6 or 7 at the base, including the lobby?

Developers do that often. Floor numbering doesn´t make much sense in some cases nowadays. Germans call the first floor "Erdgeschoss" or ground floor, and the second floor, is the first counted floor. Chinese skip the number 4, because the number is a bad symbol in their culture. High top floors with mezzanines are counted as 2 or even more floors. Also, the higher they can artificially make the floor number, the more epic a building seems. I hope i could help you.

So the observation decks will be about the same height as the pinnacle Observation deck on the ESB ? The original WTC's deck was lots higher and that wasn't counting the awesome rooftop deck on WTC2...

I wonder if New York will have the same exclusion around the Empire State as London has around St Pauls.

It was just ~25m higher then this one will be. At such heights, 20-25m doesn´t make much of a difference. I for myself am happy that this one will have an observation-deck. They could have gone completly insane security wise, and forbid tourists entrance to this building entirely, and not just build a "bunker" base.

I agree with you. That base was a very good idea and I am dissapointed that the other WTC towers won't have such a base. This is how safety should be made - to build the tower so strong that it can withstand any attack. Safety shouldn't be made with prohibiting car traffic on the streets within the complex

If I were to make a guess on the opening month, I would say March. Just my intuition.

As long as it's sometime in "Early 2014", I'll be fine.

When does the exterior elevator come down and the glass is put up? I mean, obviously 'when they're done working on stuff' but how long from now will that be?

Well based off of 4 WTC, maybe after it's "opened", but who knows.
