I think the base change is the best redesign of the tower.

Would have been even better if they found a way to incorporate the inward corner design.

the NY Times Tower needs to join the evening lights, its crown and spire have a lot of potential for decorative night lighting. And eventually there will be 1 Vanderbilt... but I digress

Perhaps when 2 and 3 are finished the whole composition will be better, but even then i think WTC 2 will be the real eyecather and thats not what NY deserved.
Too bad, still ok, but nowhere near the impact it should have had.
For the new complex to have the same sort of impact, I think the skyscrapers should stick 2 feet up the ground in the air and stand dominant in the realm, not otherwise now.

You can see that more of the plywood vent covers have been removed!

Looks nice. And I don't like the "Ground Zero" term either because its disrespectful to those who died that day. Call it "memorial site."

Now, this building is more beautiful in the day than in the night. Glass plates make the building luxury.

What are these vents on the seldom-seen North side?

I believe those are mechanical floor vents, similar to what we see on 3 and 4 WTC.

I thought that was the point of the glass fins on the base so that those kind of vents wouldn't need to exist.

Those first two are topping out dates. 1WTC's reign as world's tallest building began in 1971 despite first tenants moving in in 1970 to the lower floors, I presume.
