Who thinks the spire will be lit up for Christmas?

Definitely not me. Unless there's some major coincidence that they decide to test the spire on Christmas Eve or Christmas night. I wonder it the building will have some kind of New Year's countdown, but I doubt it. I think when it opens in March or April that the spire will be lit. But it doesn't really matter anyway because we've already seen the lit up spire.

Even if the spire isn't lit for Xmas or New Years I've little doubt they'll light it for the Super Bowl, when the city will have national attention. I hope it'll also snow

Atop Tower One, where the rooftop spire begins its rise to 1,776 feet

The spire of Tower One, as seen from the roof.

It really irritates me how some people call this tower "bland". They were trying to make this tower as close as they could to the old Twin Towers while making something modern at the same time. If people think this is bland, what were the Twin Towers then? I suppose those people just can't look past the attacks that happened almost 13 years ago to appreciate what is built now.

Just caught the end of Ghostbusters II (awesome movie) and the end pans out to the lower manhattan skyline and the twins are there, such nostalgia...makes me really miss my years pre 2001.

The first one looks like the one straight out of some sort of Disney Animations!

I think the glass fins can open and close to allow air in when the weather is good.

The fins will always stay open to allow the vents behind them to operate correctly and let the air from the mechanical floors out.

I hope De Blasio will maintain NYC's new face and keep crime rates down. It would be horrible to see the city making a turn back to the past.

It's bland because of the sheer number of glass towers going up all over the world. If it had been built around 2005 when the design was revealed it would have been a little more unique.

They're using a mobile crane to remove the last of the platform above the base on the south side:

And look at all the new trees packed in next to Fulton St.
