Pretty much a combination of everything you listed.

Thanks! It kinda bothers me that we have only gotten this much done. In a way, by taking this long, it shows the terrorists that we haven't recovered much since September 11, 2001. If we stuck with the original ugly designs, the terrorists would had thought of us as a joke. If we stuck with the Twin Towers again, they may have tried to attack them again with missiles or something. Its too bad, because I like the original Twin Towers.

It may seem slow and frustrating now, but once the new WTC has been completed and been a part of New York for many decades, it will be a true testament to recovery.

Here's are some examples of ugly designs:

IMO, the first one is the ugliest.

This design is kinda interesting, but its the twin towers, except its two small towers, two normal sized towers, and a huge tower in the center. NYC is flipping the bird!!!

Sorry if i'm going off-topic here. Anyway, back to the One World Trade Center.

The Tower we have is gorgeous. Say what you want about it, it's beautiful and to me it's equally imposing on the NYC skyline as the orginal Trade Center Towers were.

Could it have been better? Depends on who you ask. To me, this design is perfect. The Twin Towers were simple, so why build something extremely extravagant on this site. Besides, it's an office tower. Not a high class hotel.

In my most humble opinion, the time period of the construction doesn't define whether the terrorists have won. What defines a win can be debated however it is evident that we haven't let anyone won. We have risen from a tragedy with world class resources, architecture and engineering showing hope, togetherness, determination, admiration, compassion, dignity and inspiration to all.

Inspiration to the fact that we have re-built, with care. The time taken to re-build has been carefully thought out, even with some people accrediting issues with certain design factors, ultimately this new tower is phenomenal and I for one have thought the same since it's Inception. The tower appears as if it's a silhouette of the original designs when viewed from all four sides directly, yet has been tapered on the corners so that the wind can travel around the building, adding a new and dimensionally interesting aspect to it's architecture and preventing swaying of the structure.

Building the original towers may have been a great idea, but it may have also been dwelling on the past, not taking a step forward, but a step backwards. The designers realised that the Twin Towers were built in a time period much older than todays standards and the architectures had to envision something that would be fitting towards the modern present and the future.

Building this new complex points towards 'new', it allows for a step forward towards future thinking and not the past.

Very well said.

I also hate that term people use "X amount of years show's the terrorist won". Bullshit.

Lets see, we have a complete memorial that's been open for almost two years, 3 fully built buildings and an almost complete museum.

How have the terrorist won? What will terrorist EVER win?
