I feel like something as monstrous as burj khalifa would unbalance the NYC skyline in an unfortunate way. If you want new york to break the clouds, take it 10 floors at a time! All these images of the new WTC are getting me excited to be back and see it in the flesh

It actually does, I'm surprised.
I do think it would take out a lot of stuff down there, however, due to the base. It's not large by megatall standards, but is still quite large.
I think the PingAn Center would be far more appropriate. Or even the [fraternal] twins in Guangzhou, China.

To my eye it appears pretty much finished on the outside except for the construction elevator and missing cladding related to that. They can't remove the elevator and install the cladding until the interior is finished to the point they can use the building's own elevators for all further needs (both size-wise and in terms of potential damage to finishes).
