I LOVE the spire lighting of the Bank of America Tower and the Empire State Building (especially when they installed the new lights). 4 Times Square looks good, too.

4 Times Square

One World Trade Center has THE BEST lighting of all time, mainly because of the bright beacon. But the renderings don't do much justice to the building's lighting.

I think this lego replica looks cool:

The REAL spire lighting is REALLY great:

I think the spire being lit up permanently soon and the east elevator going to be removed soon also is a red flag that the building is going to be completed. Maybe they'll decide to open it on February 26th, to coincide with the underground bombing of the old World Trade Center as a symbol as how America stays firm in the face of adversary.

Sorry, I didn't know it'd be THAT big.

By the way, I think we have some really nice projects being built this decade in New York:
1. One World Trade Center- Completion date: early 2014
2. 2 World Trade Center- Completion date: 2018-2020 (depending on the time it gets an anchor tenant)
3. 3 World Trade Center- Completion date: 2016
4. 56 Leonard Street- Completion date: 2018? (I don't know much about the tower, but I know its construction is really slow)
5. 111 West 57th Street-Completion date: 2020?(Assuming it takes 4 years to rise and 1-2 years of foundation work)
6. One57-Completion date:mid-2014
7. 432 Park Avenue-Completion date:2015
8. 80 South Street ( I have no idea when the completion date is)
9. 50 West Street (Same here)
10. 30 Park Place- Completion date: 2017-2019
11. 217 West 57th Street-Completion date:2021? (Assuming 4-5 years rising and 1-2 years of construction)
12. Tower Verre(completion date unknown to me)
13. Hudson Yards North(same here)
14. Hudson Yards South- Completion Date: 2016? (Just a wild guess)
15. Tower D (I don't know the completion date)
And a few other proposals.

You're way off on a few of those dates but you still get an A for putting up that list. It really put things in perspective as far as what the city will look like in the very near future.

The mechanical floors will eventually be lit along with the podium, most likely once the building opens.

I doubt it will actually happen, but I think that would be a great day to open.

The cladding where the elevator was is still not filled in, but the cranes have been gone for about 7 months now...

The best way to honor the dead is to get on with life, instead of constantly forcing mawkish sentimentality into the personality of the building.

Not everything about 1WTC has to be 'symbolic' or some great tragedy or devastating event.

True. The last piece of the spire was installed on May 10th.

As far as I know, the cranes weren't used for the cladding. I remember the way the glass is added was mentioned somewhere in this thread.
