The cladding over the east elevator looks so weird! I can't wait until that gap is completely filled so that at least the top will be completed.

So is it safe to say the mast is permanently lit now? It's been on every night since the Super Bowl so I'm assuming so..

For people that live around the city, have they made it brighter? Or is it still kind of dim?

Not good:

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/...icle-1.1605818

How did ice formation and falling from the tower not get thought of during the design of this tower?

Looks like a huge problem. It will be interesting to see how they remedy it.

^ from what i understand its a pretty common problem for tall buildings or all buildings really. but maybe once its occupied and the heating turns on it will help to melt it like it does on car windows.

Exactly. It was certainly thought of. Once the heat is on, this won't be an issue.

The Government has already helped finance this tower and now we have to pay rent in it too? Its like we're having to pay for parts of this building twice.
Actually, their rent is staying the same as it was in Federal Plaza, where she works now. They're just consolidating the space into 2 floors of the WTC from its current 3 floors of space. Plus, even the old world trade center was largely occupied by government tenants. It's the nature of this site, and we've known it was going to happen since this building began construction. Plus, GSA decided the space in federal plaza could be better used for other government organizations to expand.

The army corps of engineers has 36,500 employees, and I mentioned no names, so no, I am not telling everything about my family.

Anyway, to everyone else, I think I should be able to get interior pictures by year end, we will see.

We all know the mast is lit up permanently now!

I've been waiting for this ever since I got interested in the building ( which was a long, long time ago). I can even see it in the background from NBC news every night. The spire lighting is truly beautiful. Did you know that the north tower was supposed to have a beacon just like this building's, but the idea was never realized?

This is nothing new. They used to close the Tobin Plaza because of falling ice from the original towers, especially the North Tower. Usually meant you had to enter the buildings through the mall.

Architectural Digest (Condé Nast) on its new home...

New York City welcomes One World Trade Center to its skyline

by Samuel Cochran
January 27, 2014

Quote:
The New York City skyline has a new king. One World Trade Center, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and now nearly complete, tops off at a majestic 1,776 feet (a nod to the year the U.S. declared its independence), earning it the title of tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. Its height includes a 408-foot spire, which was officially deemed part of the architecture and not, as some argued, a superfluous antenna. That needle serves as an elegant crown for the 104-story glass tower, which rises from a square footprint but angles inward after the 20th floor, creating a crystalline form consisting of eight isosceles triangles, each a gleaming curtain wall. A striking beacon for the World Trade Center complex (and the future home of Architectural Digest and other Condé Nast publications), the building now stands as a symbol of resilience and pride not just for New Yorkers but for all Americans.

The original WTC did have a Summer Time Laser show.

There were also proposals for special lighting on the floors, but Chapelo knows more about that....
