There will already be two double floor height observation decks above the mechanical floors. Those rings are there so they do not have to put telecumminication devices on the spire making it an antenna which wouldn't count towards the total height. So without those rings we wouldn't be looking at the tallest building in the western hemisphere

If the Chicago Spire restarts it won't be the tallest anymore.

Antennas will still be attached to the spire, but dishes will be on the communication rings.

True, but for the time being 1 WTC reigns supreme.

Thanks for the clarification. It will be interesting to see what the spire will look like when communication equipment is attached to it

We've discussed this many, many, times. The communication rings will never be an observation deck. I'm a little bummed that because of the equipment, it's not safe to stay on top of the communication rings (which kind of reminds me of the Colesseum when viewed from an elevation and close up). There's already an observation deck (which will be better than staying outside in weather like this). End of story, period.

The spire is so bright, it's glowing on the camera.

You seem to be knowledgeable regarding the specifics of this building so I'll ask you -- what is the height to the very top of the communication rings? .. I read in a few places that its roughly 1402 ft.

You've got it confused with the FAA white light strobe.

I can confirm that the spire is brighter now than it was last week. I could see both the WTC and ESB coming home from work and they were both just about as bright, even though I was closer to midtown.

Also, some shots I took while measuring a job in Tribeca today. I figured the forum would appreciate them.

432 Park and One57 both peaking out here, and a sliver of 400 Park Ave's tower crane.

In this shot you can clearly see the slimming effect of the external hoist removal on 1WTC.

Even if those communication platforms end up going unused for broadcasting, turning it into an observation deck would require some virtually impossible post-construction alterations. I doubt they could satisfy code these days, either. The platform at 30 Hudson is still a giant mystery to me now that I know a bit about NYC's building codes.
