How tall is the spire?

Is the spire permanent? I think the design of it is really boring, especially with the supporting beams.

The spire is 408 feet tall. It is permanent and there are no "support beams", they are called guy wires.

I agree, the port authority, Childs and Libeskind are all idiots. Not to mention Durst who is the real reason the "spire" looks the way it does.

This is what a beautiful spire looks like with the right proportion:

So only forumers who likes the design of the spire are allowed to write in the thread? Wow, like a little North Korea. Are you the Kim Jong Un of Skyscrapercity?

Not at all. Freedom of speech....

But you can complain, constantly whine about the spire or even write a well educated letter to Mr. Durst himself all you want, the spire will remain as is.

This and rebuilding of the twins talk are all beaten horses. Nothing you can do it about it.

My point was that no matter what they would put on it, people would complain.
If the original design went in, people would call it an ugly joint.

No, but why are you complaining because something doesn't go your way, have you seen it in person? No you haven't most likely.

Yes, I have seen it when I visited NYC last summer.

And I know the spire/antenna has been a huge issue in this thread. I just think it was sad that they didn't redesigned it when the initial design didn't make the wind tunnel tests. They could have made an antenna with air flowing through it much more beautiful...

But I won't complain any more now that I understand that it's permanent. And I still love the building, even though the spire could have been so much better.

I must be a really sad person because as an architecture fan I'm deeply upset by the incompetence and greed behind this project? No not really I'm quite content actually. I have also seen it in person a few times, it's not a bad building but could have been better... but looking at Libeskinds original plan it could have also been far worse too.

I understand they ran into problems with the wind, but these are things they should have thought about before the building even started... and they should at least come up with a visually pleasing solution.

cant we all just agree that the building is more important than the spire. why dont people who dont like the spire make their own forum page about the spire. dont start arguing about something this little. the spire is fine the way it is. deal with it. dont get worked up about it.
