Wow. The spire looks like it's in some kind of fairytale. And the bottom was lit up red? When did that happen?

That photo is clearly photoshoped. The spire has been lit white ever since Feburary.

Oh. No wonder. I feel stupid now.

And speaking of the spire lit up in different colors, I can't wait until July 4th of this year. I wonder what they'll do with the spire, but I really don't care what they do, as long as the spire's lit up. I don't even care if they just light it up normally! (I just want to see the spire lit up with the fireworks). And by the way this year the fireworks are going to be on the EAST River, so it's much more easier to watch! But there are SO many possibilities of how the spire can be lit up:

Let's see how it competes with the Empire State Building:

(I actually think the Empire State Building is lit up a little better, but that's only because the whole top portion of the building is lit up, not just the spire and/or antenna. But At least One World Trade Center will be able to compete when the office lights are installed.)

And speaking of spire lighting, are the Bank of America Tower and Conde Nast Building lit up in a special way during July 4th? And by special I don't just mean how they normally light them up.

ESB looks much better at night. Still the queen of the NYC Skyline.

I imagine this won't be a popular idea, but how would you guys feel about the silver triangular lining being lit at night? The tower looks amazing to me in daylight and dusk, but at night it loses its distinctive angles, and the spire especially stands out as extremely thin without the triangular tapering leading to it.

Again, fully anticipate this being disliked as not fitting with the spirit of the NYC skyline and to some extent I agree, I just wish there was a way to appreciate the bold, triangular north-south face of the tower at night as well as during the day. The thread search function showed a couple other posts on this topic but for some reason when I clicked on them the page didn't seem to correspond to the search result preview.

Actually, I think that's A GREAT idea. Taking it one step farther: maybe the silver triangular lining should be lit up in FIREWORKS. But right now I just want the office lighting should be installed or else the lighting of the spire will look too extravagant compared to the rest of the tower.

Unfortuantly, that kind of lighting will never happen. This is not asia.

@onewtclover - I highly doubt the spire will be lit any color other than white until it is officially opened. Hopefully it opens by July 4th so it can have a light show (to some extent). We'll have to wait and see.

Saying that One World Trade Center will open on July 4th is like saying that the spire would be lit up for the first time LAST YEAR. Just a hope that reached all of us until the night of July 4th. And I know the stainless steel edges are never going to be lit up. Just look at the renderings. But it's nice to imagine.

And I never considered that they would not light up the spire any color but white until it opens. It is rather unfortunate. I guess I just assumed that they would because the spire is already lit and it's not opened yet. (I heard that except for special occasions, the spire would be lit up in white.)

What would be the point of having a state-of-the-art LED lighting system if you're gonna only use one color? Sounds like a waste of its capabilities.

Also, 1 WTC's spire remained white for major holidays such as Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and Easter so I'm just gonna safely assume that the "white only" is not the permanent lighting scheme and we'll probably see what it will be when the building finally opens later this year.

Honestly I won't be surprised if we end up with a Bank of America Tower/Conde Nast Building-esque color changing light show.

This is a Durst property we are talking about here.

It could look good, like those buildings in San Francisco. I think it should be less bright though

Wow!

But I think it would be too much for 1WTC. As far as I know there is already such a plan for 2WTC's diamonds.

I agree, I think the perfect lighting scheme would be the spire/communication rings for 1WTC, the diamonds for 2WTC, the four mini-spires/edges for 3WTC, and the simple edges that 4WTC already has going.
