Hey everybody! Here's a couple of screenshots I took today from the various webcams.

Substantial progress is taking place throughout the site. You can see the walls they're building along the west bathtub, Freedom Tower site, and Path Station for the Memorial. You can also see that excavation for Tower 2 and the Path Station is speeding up. The foundation work for towers 3 and 4 is starting to take shape too. Hopefully we'll see some concrete soon.

... And here's a close up of the work being done on the Freedom Tower.

Wow I can't believe just how fast this building is moving along. It's truely impressive and shows how great America really is.

No one has been building for 8 years. There isn't a project in the country as ambitious, large, or complex, just for starters...

If the new WTC spire/antenna is designed properly maybe it could free the ESB of it's messy attachments on it's deco spire, the antenna on top is OK.

They started work on this building at the start of 2006 end of 2005 so it's been a little over 2 years

April 26th, 2006... which would make it 2 years, 3.5 months

When's the WTC memorial going to be finished? Same time as the Freedom tower? Or when the whole complex is completed?

It hasnt been a hole in the ground for 8 years, its only 7 years since the attacks. This is slow, fact, how people can say otherwise is quite ridiculous. Im getting bored of this.

I'm not sure what you mean by that but it does seem as though there are some people who don't get sarcasm.

Oh cool, but it also seems as though there are some people who don't get the utter basics of building big.

that is a very bland remark, you forget the fact that the sight took 2 years to clean up and during that time they were searching for bodies too, then 2 more years for excavating the sight repairing roads and such, then some more time for alterations in the designs, then finally starting work in 2006 in december so actually around 2 years

While I agree it's ridiculous to say it's been a hole in the ground for 8 years (it's been less than 7 years since the attacks!), I believe that excavation of the site took only 8 months with road repairs going on at the same time. If someone wants an idea of the fastest time in which the towers could have possibly been constructed had everything gone perfectly right, just look at the construction of the new WTC7, which opened in May 2006. As with the rest of the site, there was a massive debris pile in its place which had to be excavated, underground infrastructure which had to be repaired (a ConEd station, a subway line), and the design stage of the building itself.

To be fair, the other buildings are all much bigger projects than WTC7, and their designs have changed even though WTC7's remained the same, but it's still depressing just HOW FAR this has pushed the buildings behind WTC7's schedule. 3 years for WTC1 and 5 years for Towers 2-4? Easily. So, yeah, I don't think you can blame the delays on a 4 year excavation/repair period. The reasons for the delays seem more beaurocratic. Larry Silverstein owned the WTC7 site and at least had the determination to get that site redeveloped immediately, whereas the Port Authority owns the main site and is taking forever to hand the east portion over to Silverstein.
