Regarding last night's lighting, apparently the programming wasn't ready for the light show we all hoped for. You would think that something could've been thrown together for this occasion, giving the building's significance to the date. I'm guessing they are waiting until the building is officially open to show off the full capabilities of the LED lighting system.

Sorry for going slightly off-topic, but one thing I've really been noticing a lot in these Downtown night shots is how much darker it is than Midtown. 1WTC, Woolworth and City Hall seem to be the only buildings which have decorative lighting, anyhting further south is plain DARK. Are there any plans to make Downtown appear a bit brighter in the night and light up some more buildings? I figure this might make it look more attractive and inviting to people, otherwise Midtown totally blows it out of the water. I remember there was a time the crown of 70 Pine Street was lit up, what happened to that?

I don't know why NYC has to choose between East River Fireworks and Hudson River Fireworks ... do both!! Heck put a couple fireworks barges off Coney Island too.

It's called being creative -.- and Dubai is in an area where palm trees grow.

Yeah, aside from the buildings you listed, downtown is really dark. It doesn't have all the flashly buildings and antenna's everywhere; It's a good contrast between downtown and midtown.

And 70 Pine, like some other office buildings downtown, is being converted for residential use.

I don't want to be a pessimist, but I think it's unfortunate that 70 Pine Street has to lose its crown lighting because of the residential bubble. It looked really nice. 70 Pine Street is still very beautiful to me, though.

Are there any other buildings being converted? I heard there are a lot of them. Do they have to lose any special lighting because of it? Please don't tell me Woolworth and World Financial Center have to lose their lighting. At least I can rest assured knowing that the World Trade Center will never be converted to residential.

So that's the reason why there isn't any lighting at the top anymore? Quite a shame if you ask me.

Let's indeed hope Woolworth will keep its lighting.

So something interesting is that today at about 5 AM, the spire lights and beacon kicked back on and I think are still on at 7 AM. I'm trying to figure out why they would turn them back on at this time of day.
