The podium lighting actually looks pretty cool and surprisingly not tacky.

I don't see the problem with people calling it the Freedom Tower. The old WTC1 and WTC2 were referred to as the Twins as well, weren't they? 'Freedom Tower' is just the same, an informal name. Silly to get pedantic over the name of a building IMO.

When it comes to names, something which bothers me much much more is when people still call the site Ground Zero. Now that is truly silly and annoying considering the site couldn't be any further from looking like a hole in the ground by now. It dismisses all the years of progress and all the effort construction workers, engineers etc. have already put into this site, over the course of 13 (!) years.

The difference is that NYers affectionately referred to them as "the twins," while Pataki ran his mouth and "freedom tower" just stuck through publicity. It's soooort of like how some people still say "ground zero." It's no longer relevant or appropriate, yet it's stuck in a lot of people's minds.

Why isn't the Freedom Tower relevant anymore? Just because it's not official doesn't mean I can't call it that. It seems like a fantastic name.

This general statement by nature, logically, is as ironic as is hypocritical. It's rather amusing. You are responding with frustration about a complaint with another complaint. Complaining about people who complain about other people for complaining about other people. Does anyone else see the irony in this? Btw, do not take this negatively as I have no quarrel with you, OneGuy, I just found this amusing.

Orwell Tower seems more fitting

Because it's utterly tone deaf. Names matter, and "Freedom Tower" is an awful name. It conjures the trope, "they hate us for our Freedom," and that's the last thing 1) people want to be reminded of and 2) have associated with this darn building.

The/One World Trade Center is fine.

People are always going to call it the Freedom Tower, just like people used to call 1 and 2 WTC the twin towers, nicknames stick. What I'm most worried about is people not associating Towers 2 - 4 with the trade center, people still think its only 1WTC. Hopefully towers 2 and 3 will make more people realize there's a complex again, not just one tower.

3 WTC should help with that. I think the reason most people think that right now is because there's a huge gap between 1 and 4 WTC, making them seem like they aren't part of the same complex. 3 WTC will fill in that gap quite a bit.

"One World Trade" "Tower One" "Freedom Tower" "One World Trade Center" it's just another name people call it, and it just happens to be popular. Complaints about it are superfluous remarks at this point. Should I be calling the Triboro bridge the Robert F Kennedy Bridge and the Queensboro bridge the Ed Koch bridge just because that's their official name? It's a similar circumstance for 1 WTC, which to everyone was know as Freedom Tower even when it was under construction.
