I think he made some valid points, but I still like the building, so... To each it's own.

It is open. Tenants now work here and all fences are removed. Just interior fitout still in Observatory and B2 level (also for observatory).

Has it really been 8 years constructing? How long has this project taken?

The only part of that article I didn't understand at all was the line where he writes, "The look is particularly unflattering at night" (referencing the spire). I think it looks best when it's lit up.

Overall though, he makes some fair points but I'm still generally pleased with how it turned out.

@wgerman No. The twin towers are gone. This tower was designed to stand as one, in my opinion this design would not look right with a twin. Listen I grew up with the Twins so as a New Yorker their absence is still definitely felt every day downtown even with the new 1WTC as gorgeous as it is. Let it go man, this is the new World Trade Center and new New York.

Very eye-opening. And an ironworkers $89 an hour pay(!), lol, no wonder buildings in NY are so expensive. But considering the danger, they earn it.

EXCLUSIVE: Dozens of injuries at World Trade Center construction site went unreported

"A Daily News investigation found 34 serious accidents at WTC sites that were not reported to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. These incidents left workers with life-altering injuries such as spinal fractures, broken limbs and busted hips. And for three years in a row, injury rates at the WTC buildings exceeded state and national averages..."

In honor of the tower's opening to tenants, here is my video documentation over the past four years. Quite a few of these have been posted here, especially the most recent ones, but I'm reposting them for the sake of the compilation. The older videos have definitely not been posted here in years.

June 2010

One of the last months when the tower was still too short to be visible on the skyline.

September 2010

As seen up close from the West Side Highway.

Sorry for potato quality, but at 30x zoom and at night, there is only so much that I can do.

If you scroll through the comments, you'll see that, apparently, CBS news has made a request yesterday to use the video in their broadcast. I watched a re-run of the broadcast online, and didn't catch any of it. Did it not make the cut? Did I miss the right broadcast?

One World Trade Center Opens, Welcomes Conde Nast

Quote:
One World Trade Center opened its doors (technically, spun its revolving doors) this morning, and Conde Nast CEO Charles Townsend, Port Authority Executive Director Pat Foye and several other people addressed the media outside the tower's south entrance at 285 Fulton Street. Unfortunately, situated as we were behind three rows of news cameras, we couldn't make out much of what anyone was saying over the noise from nearby construction sites and the traffic on West Street. One gentleman, pictured above, spoke louder than the rest, though, and we were able to glean the following: "Whether you're driving in ... part of the skyline ... tragedy ... Conde Nast ... couldn't be happier ... World Trade Center and Conde Nast. Thank you." You can probably fill in the blanks, more or less. The words "a great day" were also occasionally audible.

I can't tell, is that coloured mural part of the wall or is it a covering just above the real wall?
