Found myself downtown for the first time today since the fence came down. You really don't get a sense of the true mass of this building until you can get right up next to it. The base alone is enormous!

Much sturdier looking. You can see why the old twins collapsed with those skinny cores.

Skinny cores?

The Twin Towers cores were massive, made up of 47 massive columns 87 by 135 feet. It looked like a building within itself. Only difference between this core and the Twins is this one uses concrete that is the strongest concrete ever produced and tons of rebar.

And also the cores were a rectangle shape on the old and square on the new.

To be fair, the old towers didn't collapse because of a weak core. Or rather, not solely because of it. There were a dozen factors involved, most of them forgivable; some not so. But all of them complicated.

The materials used, the specific cladding of the pillars, the dimensions of the frame. The list goes on. It was a very complex sequence of interactions, provoked by unforeseen consequences. Saying the buildings collapsed because of a skinny core is - in a roundabout way - blaming the architects, when in fact it was more of a force majeure.

The only people who are to blame for the collapse are the hijackers.

The new WTC tower has such a robust frame, and a rock-solid core, to mitigate future attacks but also to provide a sense of security. The feeling of being in a sturdy building is a compelling feature of the new tower, and works to overcome the nervousness that would naturally arise from being in a World Trade Center building. It's not a PR stunt, not at all. But it is, in part, to appease human emotions. I think that's an important thing and noble, in a way.

What made WTC towers collapse is high temperature. Simple as that.

For whatever reason? Nov 19 is International Mens Day, in particular observance of mens health and gender equality. Blue has traditionally been used to represent the male chromosome, as opposed to pink for women.

"For whatever reason" seems as good a reason as any imo.

The spire looks white on Earthcam? Unless those cams aren't updated.

Anyway, I wonder if there will be a lighting schedule put on the building's website like the ESB has.

Edit: Please don't judge me for my laziness. I just went on my roof and checked, it is indeed blue. Looks nice.
