Honestly I think the spire is fine. Imo it looks a lot better in person than it does in these pictures.

1wtc has grown on me over time. I think they should let people skip the multimedia thing if they wish, to just go straight up to the observation deck & take in the sights. One thing I loved about the Twin Towers was when you'd go up to the observation deck there you could see the North Tower across the way & get a sense of the massive scale & the power of it all. It will be interesting to see that when whatever 2wtc ends up being. David Childs was definitely right about the tower changing shape from different directions some angles it resembles the old North Tower & other angles it looks like an obelisk.

One thing is sure. It's definitely a strong solid structure!

One question I had about 1wtc was I know they made the concrete core extremely solid & rigid for obvious safety reasons, but regarding the outer part, underneath the glass curtain wall..The Twins used that rigid steel exterior columns that essentially carried most of the load & allowed for the open interior floor plans. 1wtc looks to be extremely solid. So does 1wtc use rigid exterior support columns underneath the curtain wall for extra support or does it just rely mainly on the interior concrete/steel support? Just curious

Both the perimeter columns and core share the load. The concrete used in this tower is about 44,000 psi.

The core takes the main gravity load. Perimeter structure handles the wind load and in a smaller degree gravity loads coming from the floorplates.

Yes it does look better in person. I do like when they light it up, beyond using one solid color. They used colors of the Super Bowl Teams in 2014 (when the Super Bowl was in Jersey) and the ESB also participated.. That was nice to see both working together. Their red, white, and blue also looks great!

I didnt really follow the planning and construction of this tower besides occasionally checking its progress from pics. In terms of its design in the original renders it had that silverish cladding over the spire, why was it ditched for this industrial, incomplete looking final version? sorry if this question has been answered many times before but as i said i didnt follow this project too closely.

To save money pretty much. They saved about $20 million by stripping the spire of its cladding.
