That platform in second quoted pic, its temporary? If its temporary, what is the purpose for that?

they will install a second crane here, similar to the one on the eastern side, which puts up the jumbo columns on this side. so of course it is only temporary.

I thought there was going to be a third tower crane? Where and when will this be erected?

Thanks for the update Onn, seems a little tight for the crawler. Do you think they will put the crane on the small platform, already installed, before the rest of the plaza is actually finished?

that crane is a BEAST!!

While it is cabable of crawling with those outriggers I dont think it is going anywhere.

Its big enough to reach all around T1 and the south/north plaza.

I think this won't be possible, because for the other manitowoc crane they needed a (even more temporary) ramp to get the crane on the platform. Probably that will be the case here as well. Also the platform would be really tiny for the big crane by now. So I think we have to wait some more days, until the rest of west plaza is poured before we can see the second huge crawler.

The 18000 crane has arrived at the west plaza. You can check it out on this webcam, hurry before we all overload the servers and freeze this one.

"Spy footage" of the 18000 set up at the Lomma yard in South Kearny,NJ.

It was shot from the Pulaski Skyway through the guard rail.

Oh I was wrong, looks like they assembled the crane directly on the small platform this time. Cool!

What are they lifting over there that requires such a large crane?

I saw the stats for it on manitowoc's website, it's insane. Can't wait to see it fully assembled.

The same perimeter columns as on the east side. But they can't put in a similar plank road as they did for the other side, so they need a taller/stronger crane to lift the columns.

How long will they use the mobile cranes for these large beams?

I think, as far as 1WTC is concerned, they will only be installing the massive beams in the base. The beams above will be considerably lighter so the tower cranes should be able to install them.
