I don't see anything wrong with people who do manual labor making a lot of money. They are the people that work the hardest after all.

i do. don't get me wrong here, i know this is a very hard job but 70$? here in china you can dream about that sum. i think that highly qualified people (including professors, scientist etc.) don't even make 35$ an hour, at least not here in china (maybe in europe they do...)
but that's OT...

$70 per hour is a great wage, no doubt. You have to remember the COL (Cost Of Living) in the NYC area. Apartments are not cheap, in any large western city. I don't know how it works in China, for example if an apartment in downtown Beijing is the same price as a similar sized apartment in Shenyang or Hong Kong???

I dont understand..is the NYPD doing necessary inspections on the concrete trucks? I assume they wouldnt try to slow down the construction on such an important site.

They assumed it would not become a big story. They assumed wrong. Maybe they had a real reason, as a few inspections found grossly overweight trucks, which a city with lots of underground stuff does not need. That is giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Did you guys forget how in the winter of 2007/2008 they poured bad concrete in the north core and had to jackhammer it all out? If the tower is supposed to have some of the strongest concrete on the planet, they should make sure the concrete companies aren't scamming them. That being said, I'm sure there's plenty of corruption in the NYPD as well.

I don't think that the police is checking on the concrete
In the article it was said that they distributed fines for dirty number plates etc. The quality of the concrete will be analyzed by the construction company!

It looks like they have put down some asphalt on the Fulton street slab, but I can't really tell. It is a big black squarish-looking thing, so I guess that's what it is. I wonder why they are putting it down so soon?

that is exactly how it is stated in the monthly progress reports from wtcprogress.com, here an extract from the lookahead on the fourth quarter:

"Complete Fulton Street Access Roadway"

"This work consists of retaining walls, concrete wall and slab infill, permanent
backfill, and a temporary paving course for the western portion of Fulton Street.
Once complete, this roadway will serve as a critical logistical access for Station
roof construction and Tower One steel staging."

The tower cranes jump; they don't actually add sections to them. So the piece on that truck doesn't really have anything to do with the crane jumping.

Yup. Those "crane" pieces were actually the supports used when the workers were assembling the 18000 crane. Now that the crane is fully built, they're hauling away those pieces from the site. We learn something new everyday.

I think that article was pretty self explanatory. It wasn't written in Sanskrit after all.
