I seriously doubt that a 9/11-style impact would cause a full collapse. This tower is too ******* wicked for that.

I think the way the building is shaped could help the building brace and prevent a full collapse like the first two.

Another thing is is that it would be hard for hijackers to take a plane over after all of the security upgrades placed in this the post 9/11 world. i guess

There are no good cams (where you can zoom in and see clearly) other than the HD Earthcam. Someone could see this as a business opportunity, and get Google to advertise on some new RELIABLE HD cam site. Just a suggestion.

On the 'low def' cam I can't see any new activity. I kinda expected the north core crane to jump by now and some west side jumbo columns to be installed. Funny that it used to be a North South contest with the cores, now it may become an East West with the columns.

low def cams are worthless because you can barely see anything..the high def cam....is a POS because its showing an image that we have seen from months ago....earthcam blows..like viperfreak2 said..this would be a perfect business opportunity for other companies to jump in...

I was about to say the exact same thing. Flight 93 only had 40 passengers, against 4 hijackers (10 to 1), and they were able to prevent the hijackers from accomplishing their mission. No terrorist is even going to think about trying to hijack a plane with 800 passengers.

A380's only land at a few US airports, so i don't think it will be an issue. Flights to asia go north, not west, and flights to europe go east.

That said, they are making major progress on the base rebar, and it is a symphony of carefully moving cranes to not collide with each other. I have photos from tuesday, i'll put them up when i have time.

I don't think we're going to see another 9/11 repeated in that part of New York city. Meanwhile, there should be measure to secure the building against such occurrences in the future.

Don't expect anything significant to happen until next week.

Right now the only things visible in the crappy low-def cam are a major concrete pour that covered most of the remaining horizontal area in the North Memorial Pool, and some asphalt put down on the Fulton Street slab.

Anything else is too hard to see. I know it's a free service and that we shouldn't expect much, but come on, Earthcam, you don't have to suck this badly.

It's not asphalt, it's water proofing. It's still 6 feet below finished street level.

two new pics on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/morrongiello/

the pouring in the north pool can be seen as well as the rest of the smaller columns for the next levels. Looks like they are already connected to each other and the core as well.
Furthermore, in the south-west corner of the western bath tub great progress has been achieved with many new steel beams, seems like this hole will be filled pretty soon!

Yes, or the previous poster's idea...
I think for terrorists to attempt another similar attack in the same city is perhaps unlikely. But, a couple of the sayings I live by are "Better to not need it, and have it, then need it and not have it." and "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst."

By the time this tower is built, my hope is that the Taliban and Al Qaeda will be so badly damaged, or by my preference, non-existent, that they will be unable to even contemplate the same insanity as before.

This tower is incredibly important, not only to the memory of those in NYC, but to the entire country, it is part of an ongoing healing process, and the day this tower is completed will be quite the day...
