Will the connectors that go on top this latest set of columns probably be the last jobs for Big and Bigger Reds?

The streets in Lower Manhattan are very narrow. This is the oldest part of the city, and the streets down there were built way before cars were invented. They were meant for horses. Having buildings that close together is very common in that area. Thats what "Concrete Canyons" really are.

The Verizon Building is a gem, and the fact that it is brick is good beacuse it breaks up all of the glass buildings in the area. The streetscape would be quite sterile if everything was glass. The fact that you have a 1920's era skyscraper next door to a brand new one is a wonderful thing that you will only see in New York, or maybe Chicago.

Just read this weeks TIME magazine talking about the Burj Dubai opening, they mentioned how only One building in The US is in the top ten then they mentioned how One World Trade Center will eventually knock out Willis Tower. Thought it was pretty neat to mention it, then they said how it more than likely will not be in the top 5, it more than likely will i think

Burj Dubai is obvious, Abraj A-Bait only needs clock and crown, Shanghai Tower seems to be progressing well, and we'll just have to see about Ping'an IFC in Shenzen and China 117 in Tianjin and the 640m tower in Seoul. As Culwulla says in the title of his residential tower thread: The race is on!

1WTC might make it into the top 5 or it might not make it into the top 5, we'll see.

Where's the core

In none of the picture is there a clear shot of the core. Will this tower have a concrete core?

I understand there are different construction techniques but am used to seeing concrete cores rising in advance of steel frames. Guess the core could be poured within the surrounding frame we see here. It is great to see the tower rising at last into the New York skyline......OK still a ways to go till it is above surrounding buildings but it is there and growing!

Why do they show a show about the foresting industry that isn't against it on the history channel?

This tower is different it uses what's called "erecting steel". The floor beams are bolted to the erecting steel, then the erecting steel is encased in the rebar and concrete that make up the core.
